E46 B3S 3.4litre CoC

Post by Charles » Sat Oct 29, 2022 3:11 pm

Has anyone requested a Certificate of Conformity for the 3.4litre engine in the E46?

I'm specifically interested to know the NOx emissions level before I shell out £60 for my own certificate from Alpina

Thanks

Not sure about the 3.4, but certainly a couple of folk have for the 3.3 which was ULEZ compliant. Or do you need it to be a specific value?

Thanks Bob - I'm following that particular thread but it was for the 3.3 and not the 3.4 as you state.

Both engines are classified as Euro 3 which requires NOx to be less than 0.15 units. However, ULEZs require Euro 4 classification which means NOx>0.08.

The good news for 3.3 engined cars is that the CoC states they emit less than the Euro 4 limit and so can be exempted on that basis - but you need to present a copy of the V5 and the CoC to be approved.

I'm now exploring the situation for the 3.4 engine - hence the specific question.

Is it foolish to assume that if the 3.3 meets the standard then surely the 3.4 will too (I would expect it would)

Given that the 3.3 is 0.059g/km for NOx then I expect the 3.4 to be very slightly higher but still below 0.08g/km, which would make it exempt too.

Hi

If you e-mail Alpina "classic@alpina.de" they should tell you the NOx emissions of your car before you pay 60 Euro's for the certificate.

Cheers

Thanks Jamie

I've done just that but am still waiting, two weeks later, for any form of response!

I'm sure they are busy ...

Good news about getting TfL recognition and good luck with the refunds

I've started the process with TfL (which has been straightforward so far in terms of submitting the information) and am awaiting confirmation in due course.

DVLA, however, are a completely different matter - particularly as they ask for two bits of information (V5 and Alpina letter) but their web enquiry process only allows you to attach one document!!! This is to change the classification of the car to Euro4 (petrol) on an "early adopter" basis so that it doesn't ping the ANPR in all the ULEZ cities around the UK. I keep getting a response saying that the car is Euro3 and so not exempt. I know this because the car was built pre-Euro4, hence my enquiry and a clear explanation. I feel a complaint coming in order to raise it from the moron operator level to the slightly less stupid level where someone actually reads the paperwork and explanation. This might take some time ...
