This is getting ridiculous!
This is getting ridiculous!
Made the temporary decision to switch to Tesco Momentum recently to save a few pennies and had to pay 201.9 per litre this evening

I paid 205.9 a couple of nights ago for V Power - cost £133 to fill the B5. Horrible.

209.9 for V-Power diesel. I’m using Costco premium diesel instead as it saves me 25p a litre.

I need to fill the mower fuel can up as well - that's going to be painful, as they recommend putting E5 Super in lawn mowers

I'd like it personally - the only thing the B5 suffers from is poor range. Appreciate it would be a bigger hit when you filled it up, but at least it would last longer.

Unless you're using large amounts in your garden tools the cost difference should be small - if you do use lots, and the mower isn't ancient, E10 should be fine if you add some fuel stabiliser, this will also prevent the fuel degrading if stored over the winterScooBeeFive wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:21 pmI need to fill the mower fuel can up as well - that's going to be painful, as they recommend putting E5 Super in lawn mowers

LOL, must be the way you drive Paul! I got 34mpg on M.way Saturday, average speed 72mph over 93 miles.
Admittedly, it gets pretty grim in town traffic.
Couldn't bring myself to drive anything less though, what do you do?

I've had the same recommendation - something to do with the E10 fuel destroying the carburettor diaphragm. It does mean that I can mow the lawn quickerScooBeeFive wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:21 pmI need to fill the mower fuel can up as well - that's going to be painful, as they recommend putting E5 Super in lawn mowers

I've also had to switch from VPower to Momentum - just cannot justify the price - thankfully I work from home and a tank can last me for 3 weeks! (do have to be careful though)

Re: This is getting ridiculous!
The best I've ever seen was just over 30mpg on a run down to Folkestone last month. A lot was 50mph in the long sections of roadworks. On a normal motorway journey I'll probably see high 20s. Around town or having fun is usually in the teens. I think the G30/31 must be a bit better on fuel, unless I have a very uneconomical right foot!Grumpyjohn1957 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 11:04 pmLOL, must be the way you drive Paul! Re: This is getting ridiculous!
It’s interesting the difference between cars.ScooBeeFive wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 6:44 pmI think the G30/31 must be a bit better on fuel, unless I have a very uneconomical right foot!
Similar weight, aerodynamically close, more or less same engine, gearbox & tyres.
I use a 0-40 oil not the recommended thin 0-30 (I might go to 5-50 next) and oil choice does seem to affect economy by up to 5%.
My tyres run at 3.2bar cold on PZero’s. Economy, if the pressures are altered either up or down is affected, but again by not more than 5%.
The G31 has 4-wheel drive, rear steer, slightly more horsepower and is 200kg heavier, so why is it seemingly better on fuel?
I’d suggest the difference in consumptions comes from the fact the G31 design is 8/10 years newer. Better overall economy results from the sum of many, car wide, tiny incremental improvements made in pursuit of lower emissions.
Probably engine management/ gearbox mapping will be the key factor here. Brunhild is not always the silkiest of drives at low speeds which I suspect is due to fuel cutting and the box going into coast mode for a second or two. (As you know I’m paranoid about the engine!)
I’d love to drive yours by way of comparison, I reckon they’d prove to be completely different animals.
Oh, by the way, topped up tonight with V Power. Ouch!!!
