E9X Obsolete Phone Holder Removal

Post by Wellsy » Thu Apr 22, 2021 12:00 pm

Hi morning all,

Just finished a little thing that's been bugging me since I bought my E90 D3 bt. The arm rest storage has a very old and useless phone holder. Which I expect when the car was released was bang up to date, but 12 years later it just takes up space.
So had a little look into it and found the OEM rubber liner to replace the phone holder with. As you'll see in pictures below, really simple to do and cleans up the space nicely.

This is the phone holder and cover in place.

Pop this out using a plastic pry tool,

Unclip the handbrake gaiter and look for these plugs and unplug them. The whole unit then lifts out.

Leaving you with this, which is actually handy if your running a cable to the 12v power supply in here. Which I do for my dash cam.

Drop it in Jobs a goodun.

Nice and easy, its rubber so stops anything rattling. cleans it up nicely.

That's a good upgrade - I have a similar one in mine that just takes up space....

Sensible move, I’ve done the same in mine too.

Its a simple little thing and to be fair only makes it a bit cleaner and more useable. £11 and about 10mins to swop out so really easy.

Just ordered one from eBay as it is the one thing that annoys me about my car. I can't stand old phone holders or chargers that I can't use in my cars.

I would just like to add that the white plastic that holds the wires securely slides out towards the drivers seat making it a lot easier to unplug the wires.
