That D5 was for sale for almost a year at a place in Coventry. Back in 2018/19 from memory. Recognise the plate.

Thanks Norrie. They reckon it's been in storage, so I'm going to view it tomorrow morning and if it seems genuine, then I'll get an inspection. If that comes back all good, then I'll might take a gamble and purchase it.
Hope it turns out to be the right car for you

I took my eldest brother with me. He worked in the car trade for about 15 years and he’s has a knack for spotting bullshitter and knows the tricks of the trade.

It was up in Bradford, my brothers just got a Tesla, so it was an opportunity for him to show it off to me and let me have a drive.

We had a really good look over the car. All the service history and receipts match up with the MoT. They initially told me they only just got the car. So we test drove it. The car is faultless, other than a service and MoT, it drives lovely with no knocks or creaks. We check all the panels and the usual spots around the car and other than a few age related chips and a small scuff on a wheel, there was nothing wrong with it.

We went away to get something to eat and drink afterwards and said we would come back. We couldn’t figure out why they wouldn’t be honest with why they were selling it 2 years ago. So we had to confront them about it cause there was clearly nothing wrong with the car.

We went back and showed him the car advert in this thread. As my brother said to them, there’s the truth and the truth you tell the customer. I think he was shocked but they confessed and got honest about the cars history.

Anyway, It turns out their boss bought the car a few years ago and decided to use it. Unfortunately, he passed away and they just kept the car in storage. That’s it.

So we made a deal and I’ve put a despot down on it.

It’s absolutely beautiful. I’ll be picking it up next week. I’ll post pics and give you my impressions driving it back. I’m super excited about it as I’ve always wanted either the D3/5 since seeing reviews of them.

Thanks for the help and I’m looking forward to be a part of this community. 👍

If I remember correctly, the previous owner was from Nuneaton. So that makes sense as it’s not too far away from Coventry.

Thanks for that. 👍

Glad it worked out for you, it looks to be a great example!

Having just purchased a D5 3 weeks ago, I am totally overawed at just how good they are. Look forward to hearing your thoughts after your journey home. :D

Sounds about right. It was on the Nuneaton side of Coventry as it was that side of the M6! Adds up with the story, which is great. :)

Im sorry I didn’t reply sooner, glad the car was spot on, it was lovely when I test drove it too, be cautious about the works they have done - mine had a “full service” - but filters etc hadn't actually been changed. I’d strongly advice to do a full major service inc glow plugs for peace of mind, the car has been sat for a while

They rang me yesterday for a quote on a service. They wanted £285 for parts plus labour. I initially was going to go with it but after speaking with my regular mechanic whose a BMW fanboy, he said he would look over it for me. He told me to ask what parts they were buying for £285 and it turns out it this was just for the fuel, air, oil filters plus oil.

When I rang him back he told me it would need all of that and reckons he can get those parts a lot cheaper, he also advised that I change the glow plugs as well. He says they can be tricky to get out cause they can snap if the person doesn't know what they are doing.

So I'm going to book it with him, he's only ever worked on a couple of alpinas and is looking forward to getting his hands on mine.

When I was challenging him about the history, I told him that someone had bought a B3S from them and that they thought the car was good as well. They said they remembered you.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have never bought a car from anyone except a main dealer. That is save for one for 500 pounds and the guy died.

I meant I bought a car for 500 pounds and the previous owner had sadly passed away. I would not wish death, injury or harm to anyone.

Forgot to add pictures here of my baby.

Even after 2 weeks of ownership, I look for any reason to take it for a spin. Thankfully I’m off to the Lake District and can’t wait for the drive. I’ll probably take it the long way round. 😂

Brilliant stuff. My eldest daughter said to me that she thought someone was taking a photo of my car while we was there. I dismissed it as I didn’t see anyone. :D

It was an absolutely brilliant drive up to Bowness in it. It just ate the miles and I manage to get an average of 44.5 mpg while doing around 70mph. Coughs! It’s more thanI would get from my Astra 2.0 CDTI yet as almost 200 more BHP. Plus the kids were comfortable and love it when I put my foot down. Had a fantastic time and stayed in this gorgeous lodge overlooking Bowness, it was stunning and was a holiday I needed.

The best part is my missus who didn’t want me to buy it as she reckons it’s was too big and looks like a boy racer car. After her initial worries and a few drives, she’s a convert and loves it almost as much as I do.

Thanks for letting me know. I still haven’t spotted another owner yet since I’ve had mine yet.
