Not so mysterious B12...

Post by Drew » Thu Mar 25, 2021 9:23 pm

The forum is currently awash with exciting B12 stories, I have B12 news to share also, less exciting and I'm a bit in two minds about the whole thing to be sure. Be nice, I might cry. :boohoo
As a few of you know, I've been thinking about selling my B12 for a couple of months now, very half-heartedly if I'm honest. But today I took decided action, and left my precious B12 with old colonel cars, near Hertford. This is a pretty big step towards her finding a new home. From what Andy (the old colonel himself?) tells me, she will probably sell quite well, most likely to a collector. Being RHD she'll most likely stay in the UK, which is better than the alternative I think.
I'll leave my sob story there for now, tea and sympathy please!

Ah, do forum members not get first dibs on potential B12 purchases anymore? I thought that was the rules ?
Gutted for you that you chose to sell.

Well its fair to say that it's not a done deal until it's a done deal. Andy and I are aligned on the price, so now it's just down to him to deliver on that. After dithering on this for a long while, I think I'm doing the right thing. She's a 'done' car now, and I like to get my hands dirty once in a while, so I think I need another car, maybe a project B10...?
That said, in all the years I owned her, the mighty V12 needed no work other than servicing, until this week, on a shake-down drive, when I noted a leaking PCV valve. Sytner had one in stock fortunately, so no week long wait to ship one in from the fatherland, but what a bear to fit. There is no spare room around that engine!
...but I'm oddly/ curiously pleased I got to do a job on the V12 though, kinda like a badge of honour!

I was not aware of the protocol of offering one's car to forum members ? If I was disposing of mine, which currently I am not, I would be happy for it to go to someone here under the right circumstances.

As long as you’re offering the mandatory 50% member discount compared to trade-in I’ll stick my name at the top of the list :D

There isn't one - more a case of hoping one's pride and joy goes to a loving home which is perceived to be the case if the car stays within the community, perhaps?

I would 100% hope that if I sold my car the following would take place:-

a. The purchaser would be an enthusiast.
b. That anyone would be interested.
c. That it would not be modified except unless some part was NLA.

That probably is all wishful thinking, I hope that 2021 after 1 June will make me feel justified in ownership as it has been mostly stuck in a garage for last year or more.

I do have a question for you Drew if I may:

I see from some of your old posts here that you were considering getting the Alpina decals for the front and sides of the car but looks like you never did... any particular reason please?

I think it looks good both with and without but I wouldnt mind getting them added if possible given they can easily be taken off again.

Cheers!
