The roof aero is indeed for cars with pano' roofs.
Your B3 looks fabulous and the day-one write up a most interesting read. I look forward to more updates and thoughts as ownership unfolds.

Lovely car.
Which is a relief, as I have a blue one on order, never having seen one in the metal.
The steering wheel does look massive and not very Alpina-like. Must have been too difficult to change it.

Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
I know this has been discussed elsewhere on the forum regarding other Alpinas, but for the benefit of anybody who reads this in future who is acquiring a B3, one of the things I did today whilst settling in to the car is reduce the tyre pressures from circa 49psi all round - which is Alpina’s recommendation based on the assumption that the car will do its max speed of 186mph - down to 39psi all round. This has substantially improved the ride. There is a setting in iDrive that recognises this and toggling it on stops the TPMS throwing up warnings at you.
On a different subject entirely, the iDrive thinks the first service should be an oil change at 19000 miles or 21 months (I won’t be doing that mileage) meaning it expects the service to be in Dec 2022. Regardless of any other considerations, I will be ignoring this and changing the oil and filters annually. I was also told by the dealer that the car doesn’t require a running in service, however it is a modified S58 //M engine and BMW recommend a running in service for the M cars that house it. The dealer was advising me in good faith and is probably correct, but I’d be happier hearing it from the horses mouth.
My question is, can anybody tell me if there is a technical contact at Alpina I can correspond with regarding the servicing schedule?

If your planning to keep it then change the oil after running it in. If your gonna trade it in 3 years then just follow manufacture schedule. If anything goes wrong in warranty period then bmw fixes, so don’t fret about it if this isn’t a car your going to keep for a while or do mega miles.
I wanted to do this on my focus mk2, but Ford could only supply oil in 50 gallon drums! I had to wait a few weeks to get the right oil.

Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
Congratulations - your car looks absolutely stunning. From the reviews the new B3 has received, I'm sure you are going to absolutely love it.
Loved the write up too and your rationale behind the option choices. It's very easy to go on a configurator and tick all the boxes in fantasy land, but I'd imagine it's a much trickier process when spending your own hard earned. I'd love to be in the position to spec a new one, but suspect there are some hard decisions to be made.
As others have said, hopefully it's an ideal time to be collecting a new car, with lockdown lifting and better weather on the way. Here's to many happy miles and hopefully some Alpina meets too!

Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
What is the running in period and procedure for a G2x B3?
Not sure one can ever over oil change a vehicle, but I'm sure Greta could argue otherwise. If conducting an interim oil and filter change I assume one would not reset the onboard service schedule, and instead just let it run through to the offical intervals at the dealer.
I'd have thought if a running in oil + filter change was necessary Alpina would mandate it, but its your car, money and time. Personally, for cost of the oil (free on my fuel card ) and filter + washer (from BMW with an invoice for proof/warranty), plus my time (hiding away in the garage, for a little peace and quite) - I think its a no brainer. Not sure I'd want to pay their oil prices or labour though.

Congrats and a stunning looking car. A fantastic specification choice too. Great to see Sytner HW do actually sell the brand and it's not just a big sign for show.

Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
Here’s what the Alpina document that comes with the car has to say about running in (though it says nothing about servicing other than to consult the Alpina Servicing Form whatever that may be).churchie386 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 2:07 amWhat is the running in period and procedure for a G2x B3?
I’ve found Axel Rimpler’s (technical contact at Alpina) details following a forum search, I’ll fire off an email to him. He appears to have been in post as of a year ago.

That's a comprehensive procedure and would require discipline and restraint.
I knew of a Porsche guy who would collect each of his new GT3s from Stuttgart and head straight to the Nurburgring for a few "light" laps then drive back to the UK and have an oil and filter change. Run in - Done.

Quality customer service from Alpina; got a response from Axel within the hour. He confirms that the official service schedule is as per iDrive. He also sent me the Alpina service sheet, which is the checklist that the techs need to go through come service time.

Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
Does the Touring have buttons in the boot for rear seat folding? (Question from my daughter who considers this feature second only in importance to heated rear seats). As far as I was aware, the buttons are part of the Luggage Compartment package; I didn't tick that box.
On the subject of options, I thought the B3 and D3 S matched options-for-options, but just noticed memory seats are standard on the B3, but not on the D3. Depending upon ones persepctive thats a £1120 freebie, or discount, or tax between two spec matched Alpinas.

Just checked, no boot buttons I’m afraid, just the pleb’s buttons on the seat backs. At 6’2” it’s pretty easy to reach in, operate the buttons and push but I suspect that will be no consolation to your daughter.churchie386 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 11:38 amDoes the Touring have buttons in the boot for rear seat folding?
