Alpina number plate options

Post by JCC » Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:43 pm

I am so frustrated not to not to have kept the lipped number plate from my D5 S - the current Sytner plate shown is rather disappointing by comparison - after a lot of searching and rejections, these landed last week from Canada, probably not entirely legal but interested to hear what others think? Tried the aftermarket frame as shown on purple day but doesn’t look right although they sent me some great stickers - pics to follow of those!

Surely sytner can make u the lipped one? IMHO I think the discreet sytner Nottingham plate pic 2 is in keeping with the car
Not a fan of pic 3 and final pic is trying to hard

Unfortunately they don’t do the lipped plates anymore - thank you fo the second opinion on the trying too hard version though! I am waiting for the LCI taillights and having had the original badges removed from the tailgate I think I agree - the pictures of nicktd’s Alpina green actual B5 LCI (debadged and current minimalist plate) looks the way forward!

I agree with you, option 1 would be the ideal :?

But as that's not an option, number 2 it is. 3 is definitely the runt of the litter.

Such a share Sytner have stopped the lipped ones, I had a set on my D5 and loved them but the rear was damaged when a garage applied their plates over the top to take photos.
When I called to make new ones they told me NLA :(

I've gone for plain unbranded ones now as personally I'm not a fan of the Sytner script without Alpina script & logo

Of the choices I like the last one best, but perhaps with the script font a bit smaller. Are these from Canada??

Yes, they are from Canada - really good service and they arrived in 7 days - the size is my fault as they sent me a proof so I could/should have made it slightly smaller although it possibly looks slightly more in proportion from a bit further away - see picture.

Original aside, I like the last one the best.

E mail Sam at ezplates@hotmail.com - with hindsight I guess they want to be 20% smaller and I would maybe drop the Sytner - they charge for bespoke design so if anyone else wants them maybe agree a group template!

I sent the picture of the rear plate on my D5 S but they don’t do lipped plates so he sent me a couple of alternatives based on that picture that’s all. I am sure he can amend that design to suit another plates with the same Alpina font.

My pal who's a graphic designer used to recreate old dealer style plates for people - he did a few for a Peugeot forum in the past. However, he's stopped doing them more recently as they started clamping down on number plate producers. However, this guy seems to be doing exactly the same thing - might be worth getting in quick while he can still produce them:

Hap - Give Sytner a call and see if you can get a set? It would be interesting to see their response.
