Help with Alpina history

Post by richard64 » Wed Dec 02, 2020 8:36 pm

Hi I'm new to the forum and Alpina ownership and I'm wondering if someone can help with a cars provenance? I'm buying a 1993 Alpina B10 V8 540i. It's a 3 owner, Calypso red, RHD with the Alpina plaque number 540i /004. Some of the documentation shows Peter Black holdings in Keighley as the first owner.
The partial chassis No. is WBAHE62070GF20*** from what I've read some cars have 2 chassis numbers with the original one crossed out and the Alpina one re-stamped. But I've also read that UK built or supplied models don't all have the 2 numbers just the original?
The only Alpina ID I can see is the Alpina plaque, the badge on the boot, the wheels and on an info sticker on the driver side door pillar.
I've been doing a bit of research & I'm very keen to see if anyone on the register can share any more information on the car and would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Ah right that clears up a lot of questions, thanks for the reply, the only thing I can add is there isn't the B10 V8 badge on the boot lid, just Alpina, not that it will make any difference it seems. Perhaps whoever did the job in the 1st place couldn't get those badges!

Hi not sure whether to take a risk and buy it, it's very clean etc. Hopefully, if I've done it right photo attached of the wheels.
Thanks for all the response.

Thanks to all, it certainly looks the part but not sure what the value would be.

Hmmm looks like I need to tread carefully & tell the owner! I think it's a 5 speed auto, dove grey leather interior, 103K with a replacement short engine at 70k due to, I'm told, Nikasil bore problems. Thanks for all the replies will keep you posted.

A nice E34 is worth having any way. the one picture you show looks promising, if its the right money an old skool 8V wafter is no bad thing!

Quite right, on the plus side it's been well looked after by the current owner & in great condition with a load of service history, bills etc. If I removed the fake badges it's a nice 540i with Alpina wheels.
I've used a few forums and owners clubs for various vehicles in the past, nearly all have been very disappointing but I'd like to say that this is the best one, by far, I've been on. Thanks to all for the info.
