A different thought, I am a poly bush fan, I don’t see them a harsher than new OEM it’s just that they stay like that. Did the m3 about 15 years ago and did the x5 about 5 years 50k ago. If the car is a keeper it’s worth it. In my view. The rubber bushes deteriorate over the years and then when poly bushes are fitted people think "bloody hell" but really no different to new OEM except in your head.

Ah man! the post got deleted...it was such great consumer advice :liar
But onto a more important topic - Speaking with Boris at CPC Amersham he tends to agree. OEM Bushing wears quickly....however owing a vert.... I am concerned if I went polybush all round - I'd have a tough ride.... :P

they are good in certain parts and not in others IE engine, gearbox, diff mounts they're horrendous

but say on an e46/e36? The trailing arms bushes on the rear, or say the lolipop bush on the front. Anti roll bar mounting bushes are good. Axle carriers i'd say no on a road car

Each to their own, some people love crashing and banging up the road

Sorry about that!

When I approve new members, it involves a "smell test" which means that some get through but on the basis that I reserve the right to delete the user the moment they show their true self. Normally this deletes the whole thread but, in this case, I liked the follow up question ...

Charles, you just reminded me of a very senior officer I served under. That was his way of saying "wind your neck in or else" I assure you I have given myself a slap. Sorry Simon.

Powerflex do a range of bushes with various hardness coefficients, and make one which is road spec but doesn't crumble as the original rubbers do. I've tried their bench test examples and I'm impressed enough to give them a try: certainly until recently I'd have said 'never' as they had a tendency to create both high frequency noise and low frequency vibration: odd bedfellows. And I'm waaaay the wrong side of 50 years old, and suffer chronically with my joints, so this is very much an option for the cars I intend holding onto for a long time and don't wish to keep forking out for the damage caused by worn bushes. So, I may well give them a go when the time comes for my next change.

Cheers,
Bobbly

Fitting polybushes all depends on the application IMVHO.
I wouldn't fit them to my Alpinas but my E30 is fully polybushed and the cars serve very different purposes
The Alpinas are for ferrying the family around in comfort and luxury.
The E30 is for being a complete hooligan as and where one is allowed to do such things in a car anymore

I have some fitted on a Mk4 Golf 4Motion that a mate had removed all of the underside components and then left the car in a garage for 6 years. I used them on most items but not on the main front wishbone bushes and some of the rear ones. The car handles well with them in and feels better than stock with no harshness in them. I polybushed the rear subframe after powdercoating it as well as most of the bushes were tired after 17 years.
