Does anyone know Roadster #286?

Post by Wobblewing » Mon May 25, 2020 10:38 pm

Hi, I own Roadster #339, but a friend of mine is looking to buy one and has noticed #286 FJ05 JVX up for sale here:

https://www.leisureshopltd.co.uk/vehicl ... Bhu6D7v4Ag

He is going to take a test drive in it soon, but since these are rare it's possible someone here may know its history. It's had 7 owners, but only 5 services recorded.

Cheers
Andy

At one time it belonged to a member on here called Burt

I saw it up for sale a couple of times in 2013, it had 51k miles on it then - and was around £1500 less than the current asking price

It was advertised again in late 2016 for £16k with just under 60k on it

I'm not quite sure on the value of these cars... they seem to be going up, but on the other hand 3.0 Z4s are quite cheap by comparison.

I guess it's the Alpina thing :-D

Don't know much more that the contents of this previous thread, but it looks like Perry has some insight already.

Nothing seriously negative I suppose - depends how picky you are with a 15 year old car.

Thoughts on first service only at 29k? Wonder why it wasn't sooner.

Other more knowledgeable folk have said the running in service around 1k miles for the E5 3.4 engines is critical, so if the first service was genuinely at 29k, I'd steer clear. Someone like Charles would be much more knowledgeable on the matter though.

I would expect to see a running-in service at around 1000 miles followed by the usual 14k intervals (Oil - Inspection 1 - Oil - Inspection 2 etc), unless the intervals are reduced due to low annual mileage.

In the early days there was a difference between Inspections 1 & 2 on that engine but ALPINA changed it such that the two were effectively the same, meaning that plugs were changed every 28k miles for example, rather than just at Inspection 2 (every 56k miles).

So, a "first" service at 29k miles might be the first Inspection 1 but where is the mention of the initial running-in service and the interim Oil service?
