Alpina Insurance - B5S

Post by fogster74 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 1:09 am

Following my move from the UAE back to the U.K. this month, my B5S (2009, just 40k miles!) is currently in a shipping container and on the way here!

Unforthantely my no claims bonus expired (15 years’ worth!) when we moved to the UAE (as it was 4 years ago) and I’ve now got just one year’s no claims bonus in the U.K. that I built up here last year on a specialist policy on another car.

Can anyone recommend a broker that I could speak with? The car lands in two weeks and I need to sort insurance!

The B5 looks stunning in that Colour :D
When I imported my first B10 V8 from Germany a few years ago I used Liverpool Victoria, they even insured it still on the German Reg.
I had full no claims though.

Although it is not old enough to be called a classic, it might be worth trying Footman James.
They insured my E46 330 Cab as a fourth car with no NCB, they were very reasonable, and you can get agreed value.

dont scoff but I only had a couple of years to transfer onto a policy for my B5 on checking the small print with all the usual suspects carol nash etc I got a quote from Tesco's and was amazed how cheap it was and they actually offered all the cover the others did I'm not talking agreed valuations here but right of salvage etc and I Couldn't find anything to warrant the extra premium being charged by the classic car gang who wouldn't regard an 06 as a classic so I went with tescos £280 and no mileage declarations needed just an estimate of annual mileage I said 10K which I won't do....good luck.

I'm A TAD OVER50 BTW

I would commend you to A Plan Thatcham branch which looks after BMW Car club GB. I have specific ALPINA insurance, which the insurer knows and understands what the car actually is. Insuring at market value is good for rare or older models on one's which are bespoke.

I managed to get an OEM replacement screen 1400 pounds for my car though them as opposed to a copy or no original which most insurers will give. It is the attention to detail I like and you can speak one to one with someone who is not a muppet from a call centre.

I got a quote last week from A Plan. The premium was higher than offered elsewhere but that wasn't my main concern, it was that the underwriter was Covea who don't have the best reviews. I take on board people will more often post a bad review than a positive one but better the devil you know.

That said even a good underwriter can turn bad in the event of a claim.

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. We have a number of schemes that cater for imported vehicles on chassis numbers.
Regards,
Dan.

Interesting, not sure how A Plan match the insurer with the policy holder? I have Ageas Optima Plus for my ALPINA. Fortunately, I have never had to make a claim.

My main reason for using A Plan Thatcham is that I know the senior management, via the BMW Car Club, I just feel if I had a real problem I could at least talk to them as opposed to someone in a call centre. In terms of Ageas I can't say I know anything about them, good or bad, I hope I don't have to make a claim.

I've been with Elephant for a fair few years...they've been the only people competitive on performance cars but they keep quoting me more and more each year.

This year they upped my premium from 760 to 1400 so I shopped around and Tesco (believe it or not) insured the B5 for £400 with all the bells and whistles.

My first quote for the year was 347 with them but I added in a few extras. Pleased with that.

Might be worth getting a price off them.

Otherwise, stunning B5S exterior wise...is this the one with the red interior?

Enjoy and welcome!

No I did not pay for the screen that was my point, I paid 75 excess for an original bmw green tinted, rain senor screen which was 1400, because my car is insured as an ALPINA B7 and the correct screen is part of that.

My B3S BT is insured through A Plan and they are good to deal with using the BMWCC link. Although the renewal quote wasn't competitive after some discussion I renewed with them.
The D3BT is covered through LV.
