Be happy you have an M62tu.

The N62 is a worse engine in my opinion with more to go wrong and more specialist tooling required to repair.

All were talking about the replacement costs of BOTH vano's on the V8S engine :think
Thats right, the M62tu does have a PAIR or vanos's.

One for each bank on the inlet side ONLY.

The N62 has Vanos units for both exhaust and inlet on both banks.

I have rebuilt, M60, M62, M62tu and N62 engines in the past.
This is correct - I have just replaced the vanos on my V8S - only on the inlet side of each bank of cylinders.

Now that you have all reached a mutually agreeable conclusion on which engine goes where and has what additions, any thoughts on the original questions from BTC?

I believe Dinan in the states can re-coat alusil blocks.

Alpina do not do oversize pistons for the V8S engine so if you bore it out then its custom pistons only.

If the block is not salvageable then there is a part number listed for a new block without pistons.

Thats just an accessories catalogue and doesn't list engine parts.

Even the E39 Alpina B10 parts catalogue down load on this site doesnt include the V8S.

To the OP, I have a dealer log in access to Alpina's own website and this gives access to all full parts catalogues including the V8S so If you need any part numbers sent me a pm.

the M62B48 is simplified a M62B46 with a S62 crankshaft. - it is M62 based not a N-engine as someone stated.

if anyone has one for sale - working or non-working condition or just parts - iam an interested buyer :)

The alpina B10 v8 engine was "adopted" by BMW and used in the x5, as a 4.6 litre single vanos m62tub46, as such it's quite common. The alpina b10 v8s engine was not adopted by BMW in the same way, and so is much rarer, being alpina specific

I believe the heads (single vanos) are shared with the 4.6, but don't know about the block

An alpina z8 is a very rare beast, never seen one. Please fix it!

Is the crankshft of M62B48 same as S62 one? Not Alpina special made?

Because the crankshaft has own Alpina part number in Alpina parts catalogue, but some other interinal engine parts just show the BMW part number directly.
