Second Alpina addition - D5 BiTurbo No.13 (CarPlay update page 6)

Post by Metrics » Sun Mar 12, 2017 9:00 pm

Recently I've needed to consider getting a more modern car for everyday use. Up to now my everyday car has been a lovely little Mk1 Audi TT - a late 225bhp, mint condition low miler (they're not as bad as they're made out to be!)
I looked at the usual suspects from the leading brands but having been bitten well and truly by the Alpina bug with my B10 I started looking for a nice D3/D5.
A few weeks ago a rather nice D5 BiTurbo became available, I moved quickly and checked it out thoroughly. I spoke with Gary Lott in Nottingham and he was a total gent in sharing the car's spec and history - the car looked a good one all round so I bought it :D So now big brother V8S has good company!
I bought the car from its original owner who ordered the car from Sytner Canary Wharf back in 2012 for an eye watering £84k! It's done a few miles - 82k, but has been well very looked after and as you'd imagine has an impeccable BMW service history (all Sytner).

The extras spec of the car is rather special:

Alpina Blue
Ivory Lavalina II interior
Classic Blue piping
Blue & Green rhoms on seats and door cards
Green and blue stitching (dash, lower seat trim, centre tunnel)
Leather upper dashboard
Alcantara headlining
Alpina floor mats with ivory piping
Lavalina steering wheel, green & blue stitch
Heads up display
Reverse Assist Camera
Soft close doors
Comfort access
Tyre pressure monitor
Comfort seats
Bootlid operation powered
Folding, dimming door mirrors
High gloss shadowline exterior trim
Glass sunroof
Sun protection glass
DAB radio
Loudspeaker system - Professional
Voice control
Professional Nav
Extended bluetooth & USB audio
Tracker

The interior of this car is something to behold - essentially every surface is covered with lavalina hide - the whole dashboard, door cards, seats. Even the seat bases next to the floor and the door pulls are leather. It feels very luxurious indeed!
I love the Ivory shade - it's like BMW champagne but a bit paler / less yellow. It contrasts very nicely with the Alpina paint and green & blue stitchwork and rhoms. I think it works well with the Alpina luxury wood, although my wife hates the shade of the wood trim (which I kind of understand, but wood is classic Alpina in my book)!

Here's some pics (excuse the quality, from phone as the light was fading):

I'll post up some first impressions of the car - suffice to say the Alpina DNA is in full effect.
It's absolutely staggering how different the car is to the B10 V8S!
Both have their own significant Alpina talents, but they go about going down the road in a very different way indeed! I love them both and feel lucky to be custodian of them and hope (lucky for me) No. 13 D5 proves to be a good acquisition - Buchloe I salute you!

Congratulations, looks stunning same colour combination as my B5 Bi Turbo.
Although I had Piano black trim, which tones it down a bit.
Once the Alpina bug has bitten, one is not enough.

I wondered why you wanted a letter "i" for a "Biturbo" badge. Looks great, well done.

Congratulations, love the spec.

I agree with the earlier post re. The interior trim just needs toning down slightly.

The decals and painted calipers would just finish off the exterior.

That is a beautiful thing to see, and it made my heart beat a little faster when I looked at the pics! When I had calmed down a little bit I thought maybe the wood is a bit too red, but heck, it would not have stopped me buying it if I were in the market for a B5. I might be in the market for a lightly used B4 next though - anyone got a nice fresh one they would like to tempt me with?
Regards
Simon
