e65 B7 tuning
e65 B7 tuning
Anyone know of available tuning beyond Alpina settings for the e65 B7?
Nothing commercially available AFAIK. There was a company in Germany offering 600bhp maps but they withdrew it after about 9 months.
I know old school types recommemd modifying the supercharger pulley but the setup is very precise and finely balanced. With parts not cheap it's a lot of risk to.improve the performance of a car which does 200mph.
For me the best value for money would be to change the final gear ratio for a lower top end. You could have a 175 mph top speed and condense the power through the gears...massive bang for buck mod.
Would mean changing the crown.wheel.and pinion ring but good excuse to fit an LSD at the same time...around £2k-2.5k fitted.
Begs the question...is the B7 not fast enough for you?

The Morgan is longer geared than the B5S - I'd like their diffs swapped over giving the Alpina lower rev cruising.Jervint wrote:For me the best value for money would be to change the final gear ratio for a lower top end. Alpina B7
Never understand why anyone would want to increase BHP or performance of B7 E65? Firstly it is understated at 493 bhp, the reason this is done is that in countries which have very high ambient temperatures the bhp is impacted by those temps.
I put mine on a dyno machine at Thorney Motorsport and recorded 520.2.
I also achieved 180 mph on the autobahn until we were forced to slow down by traffic. The B7 is not designed for track use, indeed same reason BMW never made an M7.
For me ALPINA got it right, so why mess? If you want more BHP buy the new B7 bt?

When I owned my B7 the only modification that I considered was the possibility of sending the car back to Alpina to modify it to 'S' specification like they did with the B5. This would have entailed fitting the newer gearbox and engine management but no actual engine modifications. Power for the B5S is officially 530hp but as Norrie has mentioned most cars but out considerably more, 550-570hp as standard is not unheard of.

Interesting there is no B7S, but the difference between the B5 and B5S is 493 bhp against 523.

To be fair the 535d boys are forever having problems with too much torque...modded 35ds run up to 600lb ft which is way past the limits of what the box is happy with.
Also 516lbft is the torque 'limit' for a RWD car...grip starts to fall off dramatically after that. Hence why the new Alpina diesels also have 516lb ft.
Even the LaFerrari shares that same magical figure.
