Collected the rebuilt Escort engine, gotta love a touring!

I did have enough boot lining sympathy to make a wooden enclosure for it though...

I think that car has had a pampered life so far, it’s now gonna work as it was meant to. Lots of space in there.

Collecting the car later after having the front suspension arms replaced, old ones were ok for MOT pass, but were an advisory from my mechanic.

Managed to get the arms in from Germany, before shipping and customs started to get a bit expensive, cost just over 1/4 of the BMW prices

Also got the tab on the Alpina part airbox repaired, no more free movement of the intake tube, nor expense of the new part!

Took the B3 out to get my vaccine in Reading. A nice blast of around 35 miles each way. A really nice day to blow out the cobwebs. My wife also commented on how nice the suspension felt now! Win Win.

MOT at BMR (along with a couple of other small jobs) and Taxed ready for daily use. Just a lovely, lovely car to drive (and just look at of course)

Picked up a screw in the OSR tyre this week. The tyre had done less than 2000 miles but not repairable. :(

Thank you Barry, not sure how long it will stay looking that good. Back to BMR soon for rear anti-roll bar bushes and exhaust valve solenoid and that should be all the jobs done for now.

Nothing ... I don't have one yet, but I was fortunate to have driven Alpina UK's D3 S Touring demo at the weekend.

This was my first experience of the car I have had on order for a while now and what a phenomenal car it is. Ahead of ordering I drove the B3 Touring and, based upon my recollection, the D3 was right up there. Mid-range, 50-80 mph (hang on ... we're way past 80!!), was staggering - but I guess to many on this forum, that was never going to be a surprise. Deeply impressed by the entire package, and very un-diesel like - super smooth, quite. Absolutely loved it.

The demo is cosmetically similar to mine (Green, silver deko, light colour interior), but with big ticket options that I elected not to specify due to my budget cap (including 20 inch Classics, merino, pano-roof, HK sound and HUD). According to Sytner, the worldwide semiconductor shortage is now impacting supply of BMW and Alpina cars depending upon the options - HK sound is one, and wireless charging too.

'til my Alpina finally arrives (July/August) here's a picture of a car I don't own (said demo), in a garden I don't own (my Dad's). That Alpina Green looks great in the wild.

Looks great and also good to hear any doubts you may have been harbouring over the everyday performance over the B3 are no answered!

I took my B10 to a bodyshop today, for them to have a look and give me an estimate. The body just needs a general tidy up. There's a few small bubbles around plus it got dinged on the wing at some point when I wasn't watching. It probably happened in a car park.

The tailgate looks to be the biggest problem. It looks like water has got in at some point and couldn't escape. The guy reckoned the only true fix was a new tailgate or a good second hand one. Where does one get E39 Touring tailgates and what do they cost? Do BMW still have them as stock items?
