I’d noticed that the rear shock covers were perished and one had come away from the mount. Checked on YT if it was a job I could tackle and cracked on. An hour later and both sides sorted. Took the time to clean a little and XCP some of the suspension and subframe parts. A satisfying job done.

Ridiculous, how else is one supposed to transport two 10ft concrete fence posts, 6 bags of postfix, a pick, shovel, matock and wheelbarrow quickly?
isn't this one of the reasons to buy a wagon !!!! time taken to protect well of course

You're fine .. a philistine would have placed the posts on top ... sideways (all 10ft) across the roof bars!Grumpyjohn1957 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 3:22 pmI was accused of being a philistine for this.

Cleaned mine today too. I think I was motivated by some of the clean cars on this forum, as it turned into a bit of an all dayer!

Bizarrely white is a colour that only looks relatively clean until you put a sponge to it. But also when it’s clean it never looks shiny and really clean (sorry Frosty). It the exact opposite of black, looks great when you clean it and looks dirty too miles later.

Went to Cadwell park to do some testing with Marc76 in the race car. Nice baby blue E30 M3 with a S65 and DCT was there and a few M3 of differing varieties. But I was the only alpina
Never had a car with HUD and thought it was broken when I had my sunglasses on as couldn’t see it. Bit rubbish that you can’t see it with the glasses on.
The XD3 certainly impressed on the back roads between Caistor and Cadwell, ride is lovely but leaves you with no sense of pace, had a shock when I thought I was doing 60!
Lovely dry sunny day, but bitterly cold, Marc broke his PB when we had checked the data later, but day didn’t end that well. But that’s not my story.

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?
If the sunnies are polarising then they will not work with the HUD. i can advise the correct lenses if needed.

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?
My driving glasses are polarised, if I move my head to a certain angle I can see the HUD but it's obviously not ideal. What should I be on the look out for next time I need to renew my specs?Simon Rose wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 12:10 amIf the sunnies are polarising then they will not work with the HUD. i can advise the correct lenses if needed.

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?
Si, yes I thought this maybe the case. I need to try one of my non polarised shades to see if they work. ThanksSimon Rose wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 12:10 amIf the sunnies are polarising then they will not work with the HUD. i can advise the correct lenses if needed.

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?
Since Saturday, I have spent everyday completely baffled by the weird behaviour of my E39 B10 3.3 Touring. The one consistent behaviour is the complete absence of any interest when I turn the ignition key. It's as though the car has completely forgotten about the existence of electricity.
The battery connections are good and the battery itself is in good condition. It's only three months old and is quite often connected to a smart charger when the car is not in use. A multi-meter has confirmed the voltage is up to scratch.
Waving the multi-meter around has not intimidated the car into working at all. Quite the opposite really because it has taken to taunting me with sudden displays of interior light flashing. This happened when I used a slightly more powerful smart charger (Optimate 5). Going back to the slightly weaker one (Optimate 4) has calmed it down again.
So, I'm on the look out for a good mobile auto electrician in the Farnham, Surrey area. Otherwise it's arranging a transporter to Lee Shannon. Lee actually recommended an auto electrician, Bob Cranham, based in Guildofrd but didn't have any contact details for him. I've searched the internet for any info but came up blank, so I'm suspecting he may have retired.

Nice to know there is another member nearby (Surrey Heath area). I’d recommend Gerry Speechley, local mobile mechanic that we have used previously. Specialises in this era of BMW’s. Even if he isn’t able to help himself with the issue he will definitely be able to recommend somebody else. 01276 409325
