Last two weeks

1)Belts changed - I figured the B3S is 18 years old and no record of these ever being changed. Turns out the old ones were in great condition...and now a souvenir with my newly installed ones from CPC Amersham

2) Cleaned out the windscreen washer bottle. These are prone to be filthy! If it's any consolation newer F30 3 series are just the same!!

Trip down memory lane

Post by Yad3100 » Thu Nov 10, 2022 10:53 pm

Following being up in Glasgow on business, I had a chance to revisit my old stomping grounds.

Got myself the best scotch pie available at Tunnochs bakers, yes the ones that make the biscuits. I have tested and eaten all the pies and they remain the benchmark.

Then took the XD to my childhood home. What a shock seemingly it’s been empty for about 5 years and it shows.

Hopefully we will get a chance for a meet in Scotland soon to give me another excuse to get back up home.

I replaced the chrome grill with a gloss black grill. With the black Alpina wheels it make a more cohesive package.

Another business meeting away from home and this time Auld Reekie.

Manage to get into a random office and work for 2 hrs yesterday early morning to then realise I was in the wrong building, no idea why the security guard allowed me in and allowed me to utilise their fantastic facilities.

After languishing for 2days in an underground car park, the XD was unleashed this morning to be directed at one of my favourite roads. The lang wang is the central belt’s Nurburgring Ring equivalent without the Armco and poorly driven super cars.

Edinburgh has changed a lot, every time I revisit, but some bits of infrastructure stay the same, what a road even in torrential rain!

Cleaned my B3 3.3 using watering cans - which took ages due to the hose pipe ban. I want to get her clean ready for the MOT tomorrow. Make it presentable and it is more likely to pass.

When i came back in doors - a mail landed from Thames Water - Hose pipe ban over....Grrrrrrr

MOT tomorrow.

MOT pass at 123k miles.

Only one advisory, wishbone play on front drivers side. I have already called up Brids garage to ask them to take a look.

Finally managed to get the aircon sorted on #062. Turned out that there's a safety mechanism on the compressor which means even if it's seized the pulley will continue to rotate ... who knew!!

And in other non-ALPINA news, my new daily/work-hack was delivered today.

This is Tanzanite Brian, wasn’t my first choice given its reputation for being easily marked but overall the spec and history sold it. Ivory White Dakota with Individual White Ash Grain wood, sunroof, pro-media, H/K, HUD & Adaptive Headlights.

I did consider a 440i GC in Avus Blue with Opal White Merino but as this is primarily for racking up business miles I think the 430i is a more sensible compromise between performance/economy when I’m trying not to end up out of pocket.

Very nice Bob, great colour combo. Never seen an Avus 4 GC and that sounds lovely.

No, me neither ... I've never heard of an F3x car in Avus so I reckon it could be one of very few. Sadly don't have many images but you get the idea. I was a little suspicious of the mis-placed 440i badge, but there are various reasons why it could be where it is.
