What did you do in your ALPINA today?

Rav. Well done. You'll notice such a difference. Did my T/A, D bushes and drop links too. All settled in now but Tier 3 has made long runs awkward.

Brunhilda has been on a bit of an adventure.
We went to Millbrook for a little instruction and envelope stretching – (just to see what we are both capable of really)
And my goodness. She is indeed a capable young thing but a bit of a handful at times too.
We pirouetted round handling pads – and sometimes pointed the wrong way, we galloped around large circles at 3-digit speeds, hurled ourselves around twisty test tracks before finally charging the finishing straight and hitting a very noisy, smelly brake pad 176mph.
Joking apart, if you are ever fortunate enough to own one of these machines it’s the only way to appreciate the depth of engineering. Sublime comfort for the 90-mile drive there, knuckle whitening performance when unleashed and not quite M5 handling when presented with twisty stuff. Impeccable manners throughout an amazing, almost unbelievable 29mpg for the day, words fail, incredible.
I’ve concluded the cars ultimate performance is beyond my capabilities and unless in the hands of truly accomplished driver probably beyond most normal peoples too. But that’s not the point of Alpina is it?

This sounds fantastic. My Dad used to go to Millbrook a lot for industry test days and so I’ve heard a lot about it, but never been myself. Have you got the details of the course you took? I could be interested.

Very nice indeed.
Once the world normalises, take it to Europe for a tour, I guarantee you'll love it even more, they are perfectly engineered for just this.
And a quiet autobahn will really allow you to stretch the legs!

The course isn't cheap, however I learned so much about my own lack of ability and how good the car is it proved well worth the expense.

With regards Brunhilda:
I first coveted an Alpina 20 years or more ago but it wasn't until July this year I got to test drive the B5.
I've have a G31 530D Xdrive which I love, but when I climbed into the BiTurbo I instantly knew I wanted one.
The rest as they say is history and I entered fiscal penury in October this year.
Don't know how long I'll keep it, probably till she becomes prohibitively expensive to maintain or I win the lottery (whatever comes first)

Not today, but last Friday, I entrusted my D3 to the guys at BMR Performance in Turners Hill. They carried out a proper gearbox oil/pan/sleeve change and sorted the common F3* steering rack knock with a replacement bush. I also had the car aligned on their Hunter machine.

The car drove well beforehand, but it’s now definitely sweeter and feels more planted. Well worth the 300 mile round trip.

Interested to hear that you made the journey down to BMR for the work on your car. I will need to find somewhere to service and work on my car next year and these guys do seem to have the best reputation on here. However, it's nearly 400 miles round rip for me.

I think I recall you asking if there were any reputable specialists closer to home - assuming you couldn't find anywhere you trusted?

Hi Paul,

The trip to BMR was worth it, as I was able to fit other things in with the trip. However, NCB Motorcraft near Solihull could have done the work, and Noel has a good reputation in BMW and Alpina circles. I just fancied a run out in the car!

Car went in for its oil and filter service plus rear discs and pads changed along with brake fluid.

But have a couple of recommended works, front suspension overhaul for brake reaction and track control arms.

MOT and winter tyre change is booked for Tuesday, fingers are crossed for a first time pass.

My mechanic did spot a broken air intake cover that is allowing movement so will need that changing too. I am guessing and hoping this may not be an Alpina specific part.
