No "possible" about it.
It is definitely a Cat D

It states "HPI Clear"?

There are 3 pages discussing the accident in which Macs car got written off This is page 4 of that thread !!!!

Have a look below the £49,999 price tag on the auto trader link and it states cat D
By law dealers selling cars have to state if it has a "history" or not

That is a sneaky positioning of the CAT D admission. I really had missed that. Cheers 8)

I would like to point out that I could have had the car repaired and it would not have been categorized as far as the insurance was concerned!
Part of the reasoning for taking the money and having it written off was that if I p/ex'd it I would have had to say it had been bumped if asked the question by the buyer, because I was the only owner I would know.
It will be on record somewhere that the extent of the damage and the cost....then the buyer would obviously come back to me with a silly offer!
Did not want to take the risk.
I could have 'lied' but then taken a bigger risk of it bouncing back to me at a later date and having to pay compensation for an over priced car!

Of course there were other reasons to be factored in....like the car being three different shades of Alpine White down on the passenger side when delivered, the score in the leather on the passenger seat squab, stripes peeling off and having to be replaced, letter 'i' loose and eventually falling off, over spray on the front n/s wing, a scratch on the mirror housing!
All of this on a £63k car!
Took the shine off the whole experience.....much of the faults were corrected but not all.....Matt tried to get me back into another one but after spending so much personal money on this one I decided not to.
This was the reason I never ended up putting a review on the register as I had promised.....maybe I should have done so!
We all think we are buying something special, and in a way we are but we are still dealing with a dealer whose main concern is about profit, why else would they do it.
Before you jump on and say I should have rejected the car....I had waited the best part of eight months for it. The three colours down the side did not come to light until three months or so after delivery on a bright but cloudy day.
In a way it is similar to Paul and his D3 with the wrong colour dash...still took it although it was not what he ordered....but he wanted the car, and the fact he had paid so much for his travel plans etc. I'm not saying he should not have taken it, he had waited and did not want to be disappointed....but still not right.
Sorry but I have hijacked the thread, well still talking about the same car so maybe not so hijacked!

It isn't very obvious is it.
Also now if you buy a cat d or c vehicle it has it written on the front page of the V5 document too

The dealer is taking the mickey, it's obviously not HPI clear.

The "Cat D" is added automatically by Auto Trader based on the registration number put in when the car is listed. It's a lookup to.... the database used by HPI.

"When a seller advertises a vehicle on our website, we use the details sourced from Motor Insurance Anti Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR), operated by Insurance Database Services Ltd, to check whether the vehicle is recorded as having been written off."

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 2282761352

Back up for sale again. What was the reg of it?

I can't believe the price. Sytner have one for 4K more and it's 2 years newer.

Some dealers work on stupid margins. There was a b3 that finished on the auction at 18k and is selling retail for 25k. Sytner where retailing the car at 21k. There is a similar car on autotrader for 18k already.

I reckon someone has had their fingers burnt!

It was originally up for sale at £50k......now I don't think the mileage has increased by much, it has gained coloured mirror caps, different grill and an expensive set of larger wheels and tyres.......then factor in it has dropped £10k in value!

It required £30k of repairs.....ok at main dealer ratess that is....but even if it was repaired at a back street workshop it would still work out costly if you include man hours + parts.

Can only see the price dropping more if it remains unsold.

Glad I decided not to keep it.
