A colleague of mine has (/had) a B10 V8s. The moral of this story is be safe and stay out of a car when broken down!
2 weeks ago I was due to go to a meeting in Windsor with a colleague of mine. It was decided that I would head to his neck of the woods in Woking and he would drive us up there.
Long story short, we were on our way to Windsor when the Beemer broke down (turns out it was a radiator leak). Anyway, he managed to pull off the road largely and called the pick up folks. Whilst waiting in the freezing cold we decided to sit in the car (with all lights flashing etc) as it was -1 outside and the road wasn't too busy. I got a taxi to take me to the meeting as 1 of us needed to be there.
He stayed in the car and 15 minutes later I got a text saying a man in a white van was going too fast, saw him too late and rear ended the B10. Instant write off and he needed to go hospital for checks, but thankfully he is ok now.
1 less Alpina on the road
He's already looking at a replacement now though

Oh so you know Richard then. Yes I think he is fine now. It was just a series of unfortunate incidents.

Obviously the main thing is he is ok and that's very sound advice about not waiting in a broken down car.
Sad to see an S written off, such a rare car.

Glad to hear he's OK.
Very good advice to stay out of the car, even if it means getting soaking wet and freezing cold.
On the continent people put up warning triangles 50m or so up the road. It's a good warning method, it won't prevent all accidents but whenever I see one it gets my attention and I look out for any potential danger.

wow
Thats terrible news. Is he going to buy it back from insurer on the cheap? He'd get a pretty price for the good bits!

Bad news: heard about this through the grapevine. Pleased he's ok, and shame about what was a lovely car. A good warning to others, though, so cheers for that.

Greetings
Glad to hear he's OK. Real shame about the Alp though. I always bide by that rule of getting out the car when I have broken down. Carry a couple of blankets in the boot is my motto. It always worries me that if my car is hit it will be a write off. Had an incident last year in a B and Q car park. Someone had knocked my car and done a runner. Luckily someone spotted her and took down the number plate. When I informed the insurers the first thing they said before they even knew the damage was it will have to be a write off. Glad it was only a small mark and I was able to polish it out. Hope he is back on the road soon....
