All I can say is would you want them to do a service after their response?
I know I wouldn't.
I know I wouldn't.

Re: Problems booking a service
Utter rubbish - who are you using, there? There are plenty of ALPINA owners in the NW who use local dealers. Your D3BT is the same oil service schedule as a standard 320d. As Mr-P says, avoid the half-wits and use another local dealer such as Williams (loads of them round you), Halliwell Jones or Bowker etc. Bowker definitely know ALPINA as they have sold a few used ones.chimi500 wrote: to be told by service that they have never heard of an Alpina and I should take it back to where I bought it from!!!

The service manager couldn't identify the car on any of BMW's databases.
I have to take in all my car documents tomorrow so that they know what they're dealing with.

just logged in to ask for help finding somewhere to get my D3BT serviced for the first time in the glasgow area
this i s how the telephone call to the local dealer went today:
me "without wanting to sound rude, are you ok with servicing Alpina cars?"
BMW "hmmm, im not sure about that, let me speak to the service dept."
loud irritating hold music
BMW " hi, ive spoken to the service manager and he's not sure about if they can do Alpinas or not. Can i have your number and we will contact you once we know?"
me "thanks for your help, but i might look elsewhere..."
what the hell is going on out there?
anyone in or near glasgow able to help?

I think that if you work not too far away the sensible thing to do is to drive down and go and have a discussion with them. I spent a lot of time in Scotland as one of my fellow Directors owns at transport business there.
If I was up a few days I would get my (non Alpina) cars serviced. It is a big dealership.
Therefore in terms of how they dealt with me, I would say they are good. In terms of Alpina knowledge I think you may find that they have guys who work there and know what they are about.
Why not just go an give it a look. Otherwise leave the motor and get up the Strathaven road to the Auld Hoose pub and you can have my wee half. Whyte & Mackay!

Precisely! Mike and Darren did the 3rd service in my D3, which is the big one and includes oil filter, air filter, cabin micro filter, oil and the crank case breather.SpannaD3 wrote:Try http://www.darren-wood.com/ chimi500. They also did a couple of other jobs: top shock mountings and one ABS sensor. All good now

When I used to live in Glasgow, several years ago, I used to take my car (a 316i E36) to B.M Motors at Law. I was very happy with the service. Give a call to Davey and ask him if he can do it for you. He should remember my LHD car with Greek number plates!eireboy wrote:anyone in or near glasgow able to help?
His details are at the last page of BMW Car Club magazine.

And when I was in Ayr, I have also used Harry Fairbairn Irvine. I was pleased with them as well.
I would not recommend Henry Bros in Glasgow, but they are no longer I see?

Personally, i wouldn't bother contacting their customer service, as all you'll get is a Main Dealer snotty response. I'd contact BMW UK Customer Service and also Alpina. It could be 2 sided, either they are being ignorant, or the information isn't easily accessable, and in this world of "...computer says no..." they aren't prepared to take the risk. Both ways the fault is with BMW.
Also, Darren wood is an independant and a sponsor of the BMWCC. He is highly rated, and is willing to answer questions over the phone. (to club members.) However, your car is not likely still under warranty, so check with him that if he services it, then will it invalidate the warranty or not.
IMHO, Synters are Alpina UK and if i had spent as much money on the car as you have, i would only have Sytner Nottingham service it, no matter how far away it was (and i live in South Wales!) I'd ring Matt and try and get a courtesy car for the day and make a weekend of it, time permitting!

To the OP, and anyone else having difficulty getting their local non-Sytner dealers to be sensible, if they say theay cannot service your car (which is utter tosh as they are all basically standard BMW mechanicals) inform them that if they contact Matt Stripling, Sytner Brand Manager at Nottingham on 07900184203 he will happily forward them the service schedules and/or model specific info so they can perform the work knowing they are working to ALPINA specification. The same goes for all ALPINA models. If they won't play ball, still, call Matt yourself and inform him of your issue and he will sort it with them for you: he wants to maintain ALPINA support wherever it may be sought within the BMW network.
For the D3BT owners wishing to maintain a BMW/ALPINA stamp in their book (as I am even though I am totally self-capable of doing this work) or warranty, be aware that your car is the same scope of work and parts (oil grade is in your supplementary handbook) schedule as a standard N47 320d engine upon which it is based. For repair work (eg, injectors/ecu/turbos etc) that is a little more specialist, but as 'our' engine is now being used in new BMW *25d models, the parts are more-readily available and should be recognised by any dealer. Our D3BT braking system is standard fayre with 3.0/3.5 litre (petrol and diesel) hardware, so that is no drama.
I wouldn't bother taking my car to Notts for a service as you will get the same work done anywhere, although I have had work done, there as I was in the area at the time. I have to travel in excess of 2 hours to any BMW dealer I use, which may be Rybrook, Independent BMW (Green Bower, Trainer) or Sytner in Cardiff. My D3BT has been to Green Bower (it won't go again, but that's my personal choice as they are rubbish) and Cardiff for work. Generally, I use Sytner Cardiff as there is something to do whilst they have the car for half a day. I've had issues with most BMW dealers I have used for service, but found that growling out a warning about the consequences of damaging my car has so far been successful in my dealings with my BT and RS - I wasn't as successful in the past. The BT's 2nd service is due in February/March...so we'll see if that trend continues

How did you find them with regards to Alpina's? When i approached the topic, i was told, we only sell them due to the link with Notts, if you ned anything, then you ned to speak to Notts.ade and liz flint wrote:I use Sytner Cardiff as there is something to do whilst they have the car for half a day.
I thought that was unacceptable as they have Alpina as one of their brands, and their attitude was unacceptable. Green Bower....
Trainer however are a mixed bag, The Dealer principle has a bad attitude, but i know the Parts Manager there and he is very helpful, even comes to some of our meets! Nothing is too much trouble for him, so if your stuck, let me know and i will put you in touch with him!
