B10 V8 Touring #160

Post by jamesa » Mon Mar 19, 2012 10:46 am

No. 160 as shown on the register ... a register car for at least the past six years and in excellent condition, thank you John & Andy :D

Collected last Monday evening from Shrewsbury, an exciting introductory drive back to the Chipping Norton digs and then on to Swansea for more family visiting .... returning to Aberdeen last Friday evening after 1,000 miles at 29mpg :!: ... what I am doing wrong :?:

Am currently trawling through the mammoth, detailed history file and dismantling trim and covers to locate it`s secrets :) ... longest job to date - replacing the classic wheels centre covers

Nice one James. B10 V8s are less common nowadays so we'll be keeping an eye out for that one. Will we see it in the city, or is it going to be a Shire-only car?!

:!: ... and there was me being rather fond of the 1,000 mile aero streak look, covered in the locality`s finest dust :)

First issue today, returned to the car park to be greeted by a stream of fluid from below ... coolant or screen wash ?... dripping from the offside of the undertray ... coolant ?

No coolant warning indication - expansion tank level indicator slightly low but still `floating` ...

Called out Green Flag who jacked it up, looked above the undertray and concluded that it is the engine oil / water jacket cooler on the nearside and running across the undertray.

Several of the fan blades also having coolant marks ... pick up from the undertray ?

Bought a few litres of water and drove home with a keen eye on the gauges ... no issues, no leak once at home, topped up with < 100mls ... investigation ongoing.

Oops! Taste should confirm coolant or screenwash. There's a T-piece in the screenwash system forward of the o/s wheel that often fails.

The most common failure point on the cooling system is the top elbow on n/s of radiator (mine went a few months ago!)

What is the oil/water jacket cooler :?:
