Why did you sell your Alpina

Post by cerij101 » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:13 pm

As the title suggests, I'm interested in why people sell what seems to be a universally admired car. May be a pointless question because there are all sorts of reasons, but I'm still interested as there is a fairly healthy number of cars on the likes of Auto Trader and Pistonheads, considering the limited numbers sold.

I reckon this will fall in to three main categories, those like myself who still own them through to the other end of the spectrum,
the type of owner who likes to buy interesting/unusual cars but gets bored and moves on fairly quickly,
then to the middle ground of those who would love to keep them but due to family reasons/pressure are forced to sell,
of course then there is Chas who may or may not be the Jay Leno of the Alpina community with his little collection! :D

Well strictly speaking I now own 2 Alpinas, because I didn't PX the B10 for the D3BT. But in my mind the B10 is no longer mine, because it is for sale, so in the terms of this poll I sold my first Alpina to buy my second. If anyone wants to help me complete this complex process, do check out the B10 3.3 at www.autoperform.com

The last Alp I had was D3 and I wanted cruise control and was constantly worried about the play dough alloys but I still have a real soft spot for the Alpina brand.

Got a fantastic 7 now but would really love a B7 though :)

James

I voted 'other' as I didn't think the 18 or so years between one going, and the other arriving could be classed as "For another Alpina."

Other.

A number of reasons, mainly trivial but the main one being:
Moved house - couldn't at that time justify £10k+ worth of car sitting in the garage doing nowt most of the time (now I just have £30k+ doing the same  )

Still say I willl have another one day.

 I have actually sold one before, but it wasn't a genuine Alpina and I still miss it - the E36 Touring.

B10 3.3 - Mainly down to the age of car and maintaining a certain value for trade in. Neither the wife or I really wanted to sell it - but decided it was time to renew - Swapped it for an M5 - which never lived up to the ALPINA :(

B8 4.6 - not sold it - no plans !!

..and here's another one down in Exeter, nice spec, not sure about silver with those classic alloys though.

Sadly had to vote on this, mine is going to a new owner on Saturday.

Only had to sell due to a move to Switzerland where it is a pain to import a car that doesn't have a certificate of conformity.
ALPINA could import it for me but want a rather large sum of money (well into 4 figures) just to provide some paperwork to the Swiss authorities. Added to that it is RHD so will be worthless over there, leaves me with little choice sadly :(

Tough decision to sell my D3 biturbo coupe, but the RS4 won out for the time being. But I'll be back to the fold as soon as I can..

Surely not so sad if you can get a Swiss Alpina to replace it with?

I can but will have to save up first, everything is twice as expensive over there because of the weakness of the Pound. I'll be back in an Alpina but won't be immediate, things like a deposit on a 2 bedroom appartment costs 3,500

It's 9 years of B10 ownwership for me next month and hopefully many more to come.
I have no intention of ever buying another Alpina so it is definitely a one off ownership experience for me.
