Introduction - New Owner Alpina D3 bi-turbo Coupe #133

Thought I'd do the decent thing and introduce myself, having just purchased my first Alpina.

Always been a Motorsport and Classic Car enthusiast and I've had a long line of both high performance and classic cars.

Until recently I owned an E46 330ci (Individual) which was my everyday car and an Audi R8 V10 which is my toy. However recently my E46 330ci was involved in an accident, having been hit head on by a driver who suffered a seizure at the wheel, suddenly I needed a replacement daily driver to get me to work and back. I started looking at E90 3 series cars, specifically the 330i's, when I stumbled over this Alpina D3 bi-turbo coupe. I live in East Yorkshire and noted that the car was located just south of the River Humber, which isn't a million miles away and decided it would be worth the drive to see if it was as good as it sounded.

On arrival I was impressed with the condition of the car and the salesman appeared not to be in any rush to sell it, stating it looked good on his forecourt and this is the second time he's sold the car. I know BMW's pretty well and knew what to look for, and mechanically she started up and ran really well, considering it was started from cold and had clearly not been warmed up prior to my arrival. A test drive proved that mechanically everything appeared to be working well, with the exception of neither passenger or driver side windows or side mirrors were working, The salesman stated both issues would be resolved prior to sale and it would be given a full service and 12 months MOT, along with a six month warranty.

Now a week later I'm all ready to pick her up once those two issues have been resolved. I've always been active on various car forums, depending what cars I own at the time, so looking forward to browsing the site. I'm not frightened of getting my hands dirty and have a few jobs planned for the car, while maintaining it's unmodified condition.

Hi Hap...... Yes I picked the car up one day ahead of schedule. So far running sweet, first long trip will be to Goodwood for the festival of speed.

I have a couple of bit's to do before then, wheels are ok, but not perfect so will be getting them refurbished very shortly.

Front and rear brake discs are well past their best, along with the brake pads (Anyone can help me on what size discs are fitter front & rear...... and the BMW Part Numbers ??).

Brakes on your D3Biturbo are identical to all standard 330/330d E9x models. I did a full set of discs and pads on my E92 330D last August with quality parts from GSF at £172.55 delivered (I have sent you want the part numbers via pm). They're much more expensive via BMW for identical parts, so you can ease the wallet strain.

Strip and refit: simple (I diy) and can be done at any decent garage that will clean the hub faces, sliding pins and calipers before re-assembly with minimal amounts of copper grease on contact faces only. A BMW dealer WILL NOT take any more care than your average garage: beware.
