What does Govt MOT checker record your vehicle as?

I wonder how many owners have checked their ALPINA against the Government site for MOT check. This is of course open to the public and any vehicle registration can be checked by any member of the public.

Most seem to say BMW ALPINA, some might say ALPINA. However how many just say for example BMW Unknown, 3 series, Z4 or 7 series as examples. Why not check your own if you are not 100% certain, I wouldn't like to think some technicality could cause problems with the Police or Insurers.

I checked my own and it says BMW ALPINA.

I’ve checked mine several times in the past year as the car was new and then I changed the reg. Every time it said “BMW” but checking now it says “BMW ALPINA” which is progress.

Using insurance registration searches can be amusing. Whilst as we all know the car won’t necessarily show at all, a few insurers I’ve checked list mine as an X3M Comp

Both mine say BMW Alpina as does the V5 from memory.

It may well be down to the original dealer registering the car. Back in the day the owners of Hillman Avenger Tigers were not happy their cars were registered as Hillman Avenger G Luxe since the Tiger was so rare and no-one knew (or cared enough) what to put when registering.

From what I’ve seen there is a massive variation in what can appear on the MOT History and Tax checkers. Like Brian said it doesn’t necessarily match what is actually shown in the V5 proper.

MOT description can also change with reg changes and depending which VIN is used for the MOT and that creates gaps in the history. There are cars with a few years missed out because for those years it was the BMW VIN rather than the ALPINA VIN being recorded.

Annoyed as my car shows up as a "BMW 3 Series". It makes it tough as everyone thinks its a fake Alpina.

On the earlier ones or any Alpina’s
You can ask the mot tester to check the vehicle make and model and amend it to Alpina if listed in the make or model section before the mot
I’ve had it amended on quite a few Alpina’s
On some all you can add is BMW Alpina

RS #255 comes up as a Z3 ... that's a bit galling too
