Parts delays

Post by alex-v » Tue Jan 09, 2024 12:57 pm

Wondering on any experience people have of parts availability on their cars?

I'm semi-patiently waiting for a replacement shock for my '20 B5 touring, it's been with Sytner Sheffield since 15th Nov (tbf a week of that was establishing extended warranty status & of course it's been Christmas & NY).

To be clear Sytner have been great tbh, regular updates & v.helpful. They seem to be dealing with a system though where anything Alpina specific has to come from Germany and well, that's just slow (Brexit?)! Whilst I've been offered a loaner (declined, I have access to a few cars) I would quite like my car back on the road.

Unlucky or par for the course, suck it up it's the price of having an unusual car?

Alex

I had the front springs replaced on mine last year. I recall waiting around 4 months for the springs to arrive Germany. I also ordered a Decal for my front bumper, 3 months. I thought i saw another post on here recently that E46 Shock absorbers were not available and Alpina were liaising with the supplier to provide detail. Mine is due an oil service in June and want the rear springs replacing at the same time. My plan is to order the springs very soon based on past experience. It is rather worrying especially if the part you are waiting on means your car is off the road. :( :(

cheers for the info Lee, I did get some brake discs and pads in only 3 weeks in Oct, so I have *some* hope.

Does make me think twice about getting a new one, you would assume that the same issue does not exist for a m3 touring & the M5 touring is looking interesting. I guess I had planned to keep this one for a good while, I like the style, it's got enough tech but not too much - it being off the road for months at a time is a big commitment for my dog hauler .

I've just been quoted 6 - 8 weeks for rear springs on an F32 D4 by my local indie, and had the same for Front discs and also springs in the last year - springs via a Sytner dealership...
2015 D4
2004 645Ci (sold regretfully)
2001 E39 525 (sold happily)
1997 E36 328 Cab (written off due to CAT theft  )
2004 Z4 3.0s (I clearly have a habit...)

So to update, picked up the car again last week.

checked back through my emails and although the car was first in 15/11, parts were ordered 23/11, arrived 22/01 and I picked up 01/2 serviced & MOT'd (and with a new TPMS fault  that hopefully I can get sorted at a local bmw dealer rather than a trek to sytner).

Previously, brake discs were ordered 27/10, arrived 29/11

Ordered a replacement alloy, but they sent the wrong size, so still waiting on that on

1-2 months I what you're in for if you need a specific Alpina part, not having a local Sytner dealer is a PITA too.
