Hello Alpina fans,
I quickly present myself and my newly acquired beast.
I am 36 years old, living in Switzerland and owning now 10 bayerische productions (9 bmw and the above mentioned B10), amongst which e12,e32, e30, Z3, e34, e36 ...
I bought one week ago my Graal, an Alpina B10 v8 OxfordGrun with 177k kilometers.
It is the F3 engine, 340 hp.
It is in outstanding condition, exterior almost perfect, interior very clean as well, and a lot of nice options.
Perfect? I would wish so! Since I have it in my home, I can start it very cold, which was obviously not possible when I went at the other side of Switzerland to try it.
And at the cold start, I get the following sound: (you can hear it at 15 second exactly).
https://youtu.be/ONWQdGNf_1I?si=6IU7bdvjdgkwP1GE
It doesn't seem like all rattling sounds that we can hear over youtube, the infamous common issue of M62. My sound is produced during the starting phase, and stops as soon as the engine is living by itself.
The video is at cold.
At mid-warm, the noise is quicker to disappear.
At warm, it is almost not there.
What would be your guess?
A short set of pictures to please you
Thanks for your answers,
Tuomas
Alpina B10 v8 e39 - noise at cold start
Re: Alpina B10 v8 e39 - noise at cold start
Listened to that several times and couldn't hear anything unusual or concerning at all.

Re: Alpina B10 v8 e39 - noise at cold start
At 15 seconds, while I am still turning the starter, one can hear loud TAC TAC TAC, just before engine begins to run by itself.
I have to admit that I only experienced 6 inline until now, V8 is a discovery and this sound might be normal... although I am still puzzled because that's not a "nice" sound.
Thanks for your help

That sounds like the starter just cranking over the engine before it fires up. I could not hear anything wrong there.

Well, that are good news
Anyway I am planning to check the lower oil pan, probably next week.
This car is absolutely fantastic, a great comfort combined to an awesome engine...
