Photo from my owners manual. I think I’ll be habitually using 98 Ron too in future unless I can only find 95, regardless of the ethanol E content.

Thank you for the full explanation Charles

I've always used Super unleaded since I've had the car. If I understand correctly, it's the standard 95 octane that is changing to E10 with 98+ octane fuels remaining E5 for the foreseeable future. Suits me. :D :D

As per the Alpina statement at the top of this thread:

When Germany moved to E10 Alpina released this information (translation from German):

From production January 1998, all factory ALPINA petrol engines that are suitable for operation with super fuel (RON 95) are suitable for super fuel (RON 95, E10, E DIN 51626-1) without restriction.

Note: The maximum performance and optimal consumption values are only achieved with Super-Plus 98 RON.

Vehicles with production up to 1998 can be operated with Super Plus E5 (ROZ98, DIN EN 228, E DIN 51626-1).
This means that you can run your car on E10 fuel without any consequences in terms of engine damage

I’ve just been to Tesco today to pop a few litres of E5 in but they’ve run out. I’ve put some E10 in instead.

I think as long as you have a good tankful or so of E5 in, then mixing it with E10 top ups won’t cause any harm

E10 would not be a problem in your car apart from lower performance and worse mpg.

Like you, my local Shell was out of Vpower on Friday evening so put 5 litres of E10 in to get me to the other side of town where I diluted the green stuff down to virtually nothing. Not prepared to give up on performance 😀

I assume 1998 is a ballpark figure

Therefore, is anyone aware if the B3 and B10 3.2 pre-1998 can use E10?

My preferred fuel options in order are, V Power, Esso Supreme+, Tesco Momentum. I find V Power quieter & smoother than the others providing a progressive power delivery. Supreme is rocket fuel, touch the throttle and she’s off like a scolded cat. Momentum I would describe as fairly neutral but errs towards the characteristics of supreme. I don’t see much consumption difference between brands, Supreme possibly being better on a light foot. Price differences at local watering holes can be significant though with V. Power £1.60 plus, Momentum £1.45.
On more than one occasion I’ve been unable to get too or find a fuel station with the above in stock, so I’ve resorted to £30 of E10 95 Ron by whoever in the tank. You know what? It isn’t that bad. Economy down maybe 5-10% but the car runs smooth and quiet maybe with less urgent pick up.
On Friday I found myself down to 5 miles remaining so dived into a BP. I noticed that the Ultimate pump stated E5 97 Ron. Chucked in £40 and drove off.
The car now runs like a dog. I’ve had engine shudders, terrible economy, performance drop off and jerky or hesitant gear changes since. I vaguely recall trying Ultimate when I first had the car and being unimpressed, so sod the expense it’s a tank of V. Power tomorrow!

Is it just me, is it soured fuel or have others noticed this?
