B5 G31 Discs and Pads
Planning for various service items to keep handy, just in case.
Back in January I enquired via Cotswold on the availability of brake parts.
Was informed no stock of B5 discs in UK or Germany.
Left it (thinking Brexit) till last week when I spoke to Sytner Nottingham. Extremely helpful but same answer!
Apparently the Alpina part numbers involved are not yet registered on BMW UKs systems.
Tried every aftermarket parts retailer I can think of, 75% of whom do not know what a B5 is.
The remainder only offer wiper blades which they then get wrong.
Does this mean not a single B5 since 2017 has had discs and pads changed yet?
Any thoughts ideas or pointers most welcome as track days beckon.

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
I got replacement front discs and pads and sensor last year for my B5 (older E61 one) from FMW tuning in Germany (spoke to them via e-mail and they thankfully they have better English than my German). Had to supply a copy of my V5 for genuine Alpina discs as Alpina don't want anyone building replicas. Saw a post not long ago about extra costs now due to Brexit for FMW shipping to the UK now so you should check about that. Shipping was still a lot on mine but totally understandable when they arrived and I saw how heavy they were!

Your other option for genuine ALPINA parts int he UK is Alloy Wheel Direct https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/alpina_alloys
It's not overly apparent from their website, but they are an official supplier.

My G31 B5 is currently at Nottingham for pads which took them almost two months to get - they are Pagid pads so the discs may be Pagid too?

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
Looking at the Alpina parts catalogue, the G31 B5 brake part numbers all reconcile to BMW part numbers (unless you have the drilled high performance discs). Unless I've missed something, why would one expect discs and pads not to be BMW OEM?
I'd have thought these componets would be readily available from any BMW dealer.

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
What a tangle this proved to be.
With Sytner parts help I've finally managed to bottom the correct BMW part numbers for the "Plain" discs on the front of my G31 B5.
They are:
Part numbers 34 10 6 887 398 & 34 11 6 887 397.
Apparently whoever entered the codes into BMW's system at the outset made a "Typo" somewhere, hence my difficulty in decoding the Alpina part numbers.
A world of OEM/Pattern part brakes and pads are now available!
(Bob---you might want to cross check and archive this)

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
The BMW part number you quote are correct.
Brake disc left 395x36
34 11 6 887 397
Brake disc right 395x36
34 10 6 887 398
The Alipna G3x B5 parts catalogue incorrectly cites 34 11 6 887 398 for the right disc.

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
I have a G30 B5 with high performance brakes. The squealing noise from the brakes became unbearable and I decided to change the pads. Sytner Sunningdale told me that there was very little chance that the change would be successful, but I decided to go ahead. When the discs arrived Sytner changed their minds and said that the new pads that had come from Alpina were a different compound so the switch may work after all. In fact it has been totally successful with no noise at all from the new pads.
The old pads were returned to me as they were all still usable having only done 12,000 miles or so. What surprised me is that all four are identical.
The part number quoted on the returned box (Pagid Racing) and on the invoice is
91.47.3.411.689
It seems that Alpina have changed the spec on the high performance pads, so if anyone else has this problem it may be worth a change.

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
Hi
I’m having this problem too on my G31 B5.
RobertC9412:
Did you just replace the front brakes? Were the rotors worn at all? I’ve got the makings of a lip on the front and the noise has only turned up in the last 1000 miles. Ball park figure for replacement would be useful if you don’t mind sharing that info.

Re: B5 G31 Discs and Pads
I changed all 4 at the same time. The car had only done 5000 miles so there was no damage CD and little wear The total cost including fitting was in the region of £800.
