F31 Sat nav Screen upgrade

Post by Simon Rose » Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:23 am

Hi Team
I want to give my F31 D3 a Nav Screen upgrade with Android / apple play. It's currently got the smaller business nav screen. I also want to install Wireless charging. Can anyone recommend the best way forward. Any other electronic upgrades recommended?
Thanks
Simon

Not that I've used these guys, but they might hace a solution for you ... https://integratedautomotive.co.uk/

Is I understand it the wider screen is an easy swap and just needs some coding for the business infotainment/nav system to correctly display on it.

Your car is June '16 which as I undersand it (though I might be wrong) is a cut over between two generation of iDrive, so tread carefully.

Simon,

Baris at Carphonics is well worth chatting to. He is not far from you either.

He is very skilled at what he does and sorted my car electronics out at the roadside for a few hundred £££ including converting the TV to digital.

Been looking myself at options for a couple of cars and different solutions. Came across these guys in a Facebook group talking about the same thing.

There is another solution which is I am interested in which is an alternative screen which adds CarPlay/Android Auto. It’s a lot cheaper and still allows the original functionality of the car to work.

https://www.android-car-dvd.de/collecti ... -head-unit

Can’t vouch for them personally but the reviews are good and have a range to suit E60/90’s as well.

Do post what you find/go with as interested what you do.

Given you want to ditch the smaller business nav screen your most cost effective option will be to go down the android screen route, this will give you a replacement bigger screen that will give you access to idrive as normal, but then a whole new menu screen allowing you to run CarPlay etc

Or you go down the route of retrofitting NBT Evo idrive and that’s very expensive.

For wireless charging there are a number of retrofit kits you can fit to your car.

For anyone looking at CarPlay and already have pro nav, then it’s worth going down the CarPlay box route which I’ve just done to my F10:

CarPlay install F10 Pro nav

Finally, do your homework, you can buy the hardware for these upgrades at a fraction of the cost - eg. CarPlay box £150 vs £450 from a UK supplier.

Firstly I think you need to determine exactly which system is in your F31. The following should help:
