Thanks Barry & Asim,
I had a look at the websites for both Intravee and BlueBus and although the Intravee looks like it provides lots of functionality the Bluebus provides the main things that would give me most benefit such as bluetooth music and telephone calls. I don't plan on using the CD player so not an issue. I think I would be happy with the original head unit and the increased functionality.

The other issue that I have is the mk3 sat nav unit in my car. Currently the latest updates available are 2014/15 maps so not much use. I was thinking about upgrading to a mk4 unit and wondered if that was just a straight swap and purchasing a updated DVD which you can get 2020 maps. Had look through some forums and it appears a plug and play swap. Just wondering if anyone on our forum has done this.

Even if I had success with this I might still consider something like the Dynavin later on, if it provided other improvements. I have just never been a fan of seeing mods that don't look right on the dash, so that always makes me wary.

I can confirm MK3 to MK4 unit is a straight swap.

I think you’ll be very happy with the BlueBus John, I think it’s a great plug ‘n play option.

I love my intravee, one of the first things I did to my B12 was take the GROM unit out and fit an intravee & iPod combo. I did plan to fit an ULF also for bluetooth phone call connectivity (with laughably bad voice control) but haven't got to this yet. The steering wheel controls do control the music playback....

I think I will go down the Bluebus route and looking to purchase a Mk4 Sat Nav unit at the moment. I think it will give me the additional functionality that is the best benefit. Still looking at DAB and a reversing camera but not sure how all that can be integrated without too much additional bits and pieces.

Pretty sure my ULF is a v5 and it still works fine with my iPhone 8

Pretty sure mine is the same version but doesn't get on with Android. I've thought about getting the v13 from Baris but for the use I'd make of it, it doesn't make that much sense - in fact, it's a nice break not to be able to take calls on the move. I had the Bluetooth added by Baris to the amp so can stream music.

Does anyone have or experience of using a cig plug in type radio transmitter Bluetooth device which I think u tune into a radio station, pair and then can use your iPhone ? I have podcasts saved on my phone which I listen to and this would be an easy option with no wires or changing to listen via the car stereo. The only thing is Sound and radio signals could be a minor issue? What about this

Hi Hap,

Not used one of those but I have fitted a JL MBT-RX Audio Streamer in my 335d. Really simple - it feeds into the Aux Socket (need RCA female to 3.5mm adaptor and takes a 12V live which could easily be wired to a cig plug (I wired mine in to the boot - bit more complex but it really works well)

The sound quality is excellent (as you'd expect from JL)

Any help?

This is a bit niche but for anyone old fashioned enough to still be using an iPod/iPhone & Intravee in their E39/E46/E53 for music you can now add an Invery device which allows you to control the Apple device from your steering wheel controls via BT. Maybe not ground breaking but it does make the car feel a little bit more modern.

There are other options but if you already use an Intravee this is quite a nice touch.

Bit of a thread bump but have you used this actual item and can confirm it works with the intrvee and an iphone?

Yep, it works well but does take a few seconds to connect once you get in the car to start playing, biggest annoyance for me is it will start playing the default music player on your iPhone and as I use Spotify I have to manually choose that on the phone but then it's all good.
