All judder gone now.
2 lower wishbone arms both sides including new bushes. Parts £830, labour/ Vat etc £370 ish. Little difference.
Steering centre bar and end arms both sides, £630 total, no difference, passed MOT
Standard E39 front wheel bearings replaced with M5 and minor brake skim, total £950 and minor skim, judder fully Fixed !

All thanks to Phil at CPC so thanks for recommendations

Apparently the M5 bearings were a factory option over the standard 540 ?

So largely new moving parts for front end to cure judder but all of benefit after 108000 miles.

Despite having re built several engines on various cars over the years and most of a Mark 2 Jag I had not realised there is a centre brake light on the parcel shelf..........fixed.

Anyone tried selling one of these recently ? Or used Old Colonel Cars to do so ? I need a 4x4 and tow hitch to pull a boat off wet slip ways and the Alpina is my everyday car so don’t want to damage the rear panel and the anti spin system concerns me plus the auto box etc when hauling 1.5 tonne up a steep slipway. The car has been fantastic fun over the years and a wrench to,let go but new hobbies, and only retirement income beckon.

Good to hear John and useful to know what cured it. I thought all V8S had M5 front wheel bearings?

Selling is very much luck of the draw with buyers and of course the car being a good example - good luck with what you choose.

There’s not been too many V8S’ sold recently that I know of, apart from the Alpina Green Touring and the silver saloon via online auction sites.

Old Colonel and some of the other specialists like Classic Heroes or HPC could well be worth a call to see if they are interested. Otherwise your other options are some of the auctions, online or physical, or the old favourites for a classified.

Have you got any pics, details of spec, which number is yours?

From experience, it is difficult to track down this sort of problem with three possible variables contributing to the symptoms - unless there is something stand-out, it is always likely to be a case of logically working through the possible sources - which is what CPC appear to have done and did for me too.

In my case, it was the brake reaction bushes at the back end of the lower wishbones that were the main culprit on my E46, but we eventually replaced the whole front end bushing along with new wishbones and Z4M "lollipops" to make sure it was as good as new.

I'm glad that CPC looked after you well
