Similar to how mine looked, the leather just wears out.
?The up down arrows are on a separate piece which crumbles off.

OP, also looks like you have grey stitch

yeah it's bad. It was left in a garage for a year before I bought it.

Up/down just fell off.

The stitching is green and blue but very worn. Look at the second to last picture.

I paid €955/£900 for reupholstering my steering wheel at Alpina, including +2 mm and a new lavalina cover for the spokes..

Looks fabulous though..

So, £310 is relatively cheap.. :D

I paid about £1250 for a new wheel - decided on this route as the rim was loose on the metal rim, so properly knackered!

That does appear to be an ok price then. Perhaps Royal was too cheap?

I think I'll go with MPM and ditched the perforated leather and the augmentation. If Alpina did thicker wheels as an option then then is in keeping. I thought that if I was changing it anyway by making it thicker, I may as well go with other non-standard modifications. Appreciate that being pointed out.

I'll post a picture when it's done. Thanks

There's a line you don't see too often on the forum :)

Although it's great to keep an Alpina original I don't see any problem in a few small mods that make the car yours, especially if they're easily reversible. I went with alcantara for my wheel and gear knob/handbrake from Royal although I did keep the originals too, I've been very pleased with the end result:

How much did it set you back?

Looks nice. That was my thinking originally. It is all reversible. Not thought about alcantara. Never driven a car with it on. How do you find it?

I've thought about the gaiters too but think that might be too modded to have them in black. I was considering redoing them in grey but with green blue stitching. But I'm looking at doing the sound system too so that's a bit much cash.

Speaking of which, is that the dynavin headunit?

I had them done by Jack in 2016: £175 for the wheel & £105 for the gear/handbrake parts. They feel nice to use, although after 4 years the wheel is showing very slight signs of use at the 2&10 positions but that’s just me being picky, although the car isn’t a DD of course.

That’s the regular E39 screen but I fitted Storm metal illuminated knobs that are a nice little upgrade, I’m happy with the OEM screen although I do have IPhone music connectivity as well as a few other tweaks!

I always thought a thicker steering wheel might look out of place in the B10 but seeing this photo it doesn't.

A while ago from some other forum posts made a note of this chaps details as restored someone else’s Alpina steering wheel. It’s a while ago and can’t remember which forum.

If you look in his store you will see has a lot of steering wheels already done. Maybe worth contacting him for a quote.

How about asking these guys? http://www.b-trim.co.uk/index.php Custom trim work including trimming dashboards, door cards, steering wheels, gear gaiters and other automotive parts is mentioned on their site.
