E30 c2 2.7 Cylinder Head

Post by retro-bmw » Thu Jul 02, 2020 9:59 pm

I have pulled my 4dr e30 Alpina qc2 2.7 from storage and hoping to get it on road this year.

When I originally bought this around 6 or 7 years ago the engine was removed and in bits, as with most the cylinder head was fubered- previously welded and cracked again which was why it ended up being taken off road around 10/11 years ago

I'm now having all the block stripped and any parts in terms of bearings/shells/piston rings will be replaced.
This now brings me to the cylinder head, I have a good 885 head but now need to know exactly what works involved to get it to same spec as a 2.7 head.

Will also have a read through Simon's build thread shortly hopefully he would have had this area covered which may be of some help.

Thanks

Have you tried looking on the e30 zone, there are a bunch of very knowledgeable duds on there and a number have done the 2.7 conversion

Late to the party, but if you have the old head, could that not be used as the basis for the new head?

New Mahle pistons were fitted into these engines and they increased the compression ratio from 8.5:1 to 10.2:1, and the cylinder head received hemispherical combustion chambers and bigger valves to suit those pistons.
