Mechanic for Head Gasket E46 B3s Replacment

Post by TonyB » Mon May 20, 2024 11:23 am

Hi,

So as mentioned in another post, I need to replace my HG as it's blown between 5 & 6 cylinder.

My mechanic says he can't do it (doesn't want to tie up his ramp...) and will outsource to someone else.

Firstly, can any recommend a mechanic, I'm in East Herts, secondly, any idea on how much this costs?

Thanks in advance.
Tony B

Many of us here have used CPC in amersham with good results. Ask for boris. hes done loads of them.

make sure the block is absolutely true, use all new head studs, don't grease them. Have
the head reco'd while it's off...rather than paying R and R again later.

I've been through that hassle before, and it's not fun. I’m not in East Herts myself, but I've heard good things about Stevenage Engine Services—they seem to know their stuff when it comes to engine work. As for cost, when mine went, I was out around £1,000, but it can vary based on the make/model and who you go with, so I’d definitely call around for a few quotes.
