'84 Alpina B6 2.8 Ignition Conundrum

Post by Sechserreihe » Fri Nov 26, 2021 2:57 am

Hi all,
How many B6 2.8/1 owners are on the forum? I would love to hear from someone who has had solved their AFT Ignition system woes. I'm grasping at straws with my broken system (need a new flywheel with AFT ring gear and trigger tooth.)

I'm looking for some guidance on fitting an alternative ignition system to the engine that doesn't require this AFT system with its unique crank position sensor, flywheel and ignition box. Has someone been able install a less complex and less failure prone system?

I'm leaking oil from the rear main seal, so a flywheel remove and replace is in order anyway. I'm holding off on this project until I know which route to take. Finding a good AFT flywheel with the Mu-Metal still intact on the trigger tooth, will be next to impossible. Converting to an alternative system that uses either a standard Bosch crank position sensor or a hall sensor would be "easier" route.

No help from Alpina...parts are no longer available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Update on the B6. Happy to report everything up and running. Sourced a good AFT flywheel from a fellow in Germany who was parting his car.

Back in business!
