2021 B3 Touring

Post by Saracenus » Tue Nov 28, 2023 2:55 pm

Hello from a new member! I’m not yet a Alpina owner but have been looking at the brand to replace my Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered.

As a long standing owner of fast estates, Volvo’s recent announcement to discontinue estate sales in the UK has left me looking for something else comfortable and fast - clearly nothing fits that bill more than an Alpina!

I’ve been looking at this 2021 B3:

The seller looks reputable, the car looks in good condition and the price looks typical. Is there anyone who has any knowledge of this car? Is there anything I should be looking out for? Is it worth buying a used car from Sytner instead, recognising the premium it might attract?

Sorry for the barrage of questions in a first post. I’ll be really grateful for any advice you can offer.

Welcome to the forum.

I can’t comment on this particular car but the B3 is a brilliant daily. As a fan of fast estates I doubt you’d regret it if you do go for it.

I’m not convinced there’s any particular benefit buying from Sytner. The car will presumably have at least 9 months left on the factory warranty and Sytner don’t seem to take that much care prepping cars for sale (and I’ve seen examples where they’ve been downright unacceptable) whilst also asking absolute top dollar.

Thanks for the advice Sal.

I was undecided about that car - it was the right colour and seemed a decent spec, but I’ve since found a D3s that is probably a better match for my real world driving requirements. I put a deposit down yesterday and have just arranged to pick it up on Friday. My V60 has been a fine car but I’m expecting the Alpina to be a real step up!

Nice one. I’ve never driven one but I doubt the D is discernibly slower than the B anywhere other than on paper and on the skinny side of a ton plus on the speedo.

Feel free to post some pics when the beast arrives!

Here’s the “new” D3S on collection day with the fondly remembered V60PE in the background.

I know green is everyone’s first choice (it was mine) and grey isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (it is mine!) but I’m over the moon with it after 300 miles. I can’t imagine how much more performance a B3 has but this will do for me - I think it has enough torque to tow an aircraft carrier!

Congratulations on the D3S. :dance

I keep looking at the blue B3 at Alexanders and wondering if I should upgrade my F31. The G21 does appeal.

Thanks, I absolutely love it so far. I’ve no doubt it’s the right car for me, as awesome as a B3 is.

As for the Alexander’s B3, it’s been there for an age now, maybe as long as 5 or 6 months? Initially it was advertised just below £70k but they dropped it £5k in early Dec just before I picked up the D3S. Surely they have one eye on a diminishing manufacturer’s warranty on an otherwise fine looking car - they were always quick and helpful in responding to queries so maybe try your arm with a lower cash offer?

It’s certainly been there since July, I think.

The front bumper has obviously been painted, which in itself is no biggie. Just wish it had been done in a closer shade of blue and had the silver stripes re-instated. Alloys and brakes aside, the spec is really nice.
