General buying question

Post by gazoo » Wed Dec 30, 2020 7:49 pm

Was wondering in the current climate, with the restrictions on physically viewing cars in areas that are tier 4, if you buy a BMW approved used car after a virtual viewing which gets delivered to home, what happens if you notice a scuff on the wheel or any body scratches ?

Is there any buyers protection or rights we have in this scenario?

If you never physically set foot in the dealership up to the point the sale is completed (i.e. after the financial transaction occurs and the car lands on your drive) then distance selling regs apply and you can cancel the order for any reason and without penalty within 14 days.

Obviously you might not want to do that if the issues are minor and easily fixed but it puts you in an excellent position to insist that the issues are made good to your satisfaction.

I placed an order for a car a few months ago and it was transparent that the dealer was very keen to get me into the building to avoid a distance sale, which the salesman all but confirmed when I eventually met him in person (though I was always going to go in regardless).

I Had a new G21 330D delivered by Sytner in June, when it was being offloaded I noticed 2 wheels had a small mark.
Contacted Sytner the following day and they authorised the repair at their expense.
I had it done and they coughed up straight away.

I’ve seen a M4 convertible at a very good price - sold mine 2 years ago and missed it this summer! Fancy a bit of a cruiser next summer...
