Configurator Correct?

Post by churchie386 » Sun Dec 20, 2020 6:17 pm

On the new D3 S configurator the cognac interior shows cognac lower dash too. However, on a real D3 S (https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/deta ... 2415265914) the lower dash is black. I guess a question for Sytner, but is a black lower dash a special order thing?

Ah, just spotted this car has leather (or Sensatec) dash.

Don't they all have Sensatec as standard?

Sensatec or Nappa on the dash are optional if you don’t go for one of the extended leather options. The boggo dash is plastic.

I was sorely tempted by the cognac interior but was not sold on the look of it on the lower dash. I was never bothered enough about the quality of the leather touching my clothes to upgrade to the Tartufo Merino which doesn’t affect the dash. I have to say I didn’t even consider the possibility of a bespoke configuration.

As an aside the cognac looks several shades lighter in that photo than the configurator suggests - my cleaning OCD would be severely triggered.

The dealer in Germany confirmed that because the car has a leather dash, the lower dash trim is black even when ordering Cognac vernasca leather.

I had a go on the German BMW configurator building a 330d G21 with Cognac and different dash coverings. With leather the lower dash is black, but with Sensatec the lower dash trim remains Cognac.

Cognac £1060 + Nappa Leather Dash £1250 = "Tan" interior with black dash £2310

Or

Tartufo Merino £1900 = "Tan" interior with black dash, plus higher quality leather for saving of £410

I want "Tan", but do I really need a black dash. I need to decide spec very soon and now having a wobble over Cognac (is it really orange? can I live with a coloured dash?).

These are two are F models, so tecnically its Dakota leather not Vernasca

This is a Vernasca Cognac on a G20 aiming for "Alpina Green" ... looks very good to my eyes

I can sympathise with your dilemma. Back when I was spec’ing an F32 I was tempted by the Coral Red leather but couldn’t face the red lower dash, so opted for Oyster which had the black dash. It’s an important decision as you will spend more time looking at that than the outside.

I’ve not seen the current Cognac interior in the flesh, but I think it’s a good choice going off the pics. The Lavalina in Trilly’s D4 is awesome 😎 https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=17379 ... -Coupe-051

If it’s got to be a black dash, then surely the Merino is a no brainer.

In the end I went with Vernasca leather in Oyster. Played if safe as Oyster is a know entity when, due to lockdown, it was not possible to see Cognac in realitiy; the pictures on the Internet of Cognac vary tremendously. Plus, Oyster was the wife's preference which made it that little bit easier to argue the case for buying a new £60K car.

Thanks for the input everyone.
