How to check if c2 2.7 alpina suspension is original

Post by Bmwe30c2convertible » Sun Jan 05, 2020 9:48 pm

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone would happen to know how one can tell whether c2 alpina still rides on its original suspension components ie springs and shocks? Are there any particular markings etc? Cheers Jazz.

Yes there is.

The yellow bilstein shock absorbers will have Alpina stamped into them but its quite small, near to the bottom on the rears.

The springs will have alpina printed on them in white plus the part number if they are not too rusty.

Nice1, will check mine out.

With wear n tear over the years, what would ppl replace the original shocks n springs with? Is there direct replacement available ie without doing any modifications? Ta

They look pretty fresh and so I'd suggest they've been changed. Any markings or logos on the dampers & springs?

Looks like a clean and well cared for car, nice buy OP 8)

Clean the grime off the springs and look closely for alpina and part numbers printed in white.

The rear shocks will have ALPINA stamped into the near the bottom but its very small so impossible to tell from the pics you have posted.

P.S, dont put axle stands on the rear axle beam as it stresses the rubber beam bush. Place the axle stand under the beam bush pate if the stand is the correct shape.

They look pretty fresh as they car spent a lot of time in the south of France and has been off the road for some time plus is a low mileage car.

Hiya thanks for that, will do that. The pics with axle stands are from when previous owner had her.

I believe the owner of a newspaper group originally had this car on the Riviera.

What would be the correct and safest way of lifting the car from front and back? My mate got those spongey ramps, race ramps I think. Could someone advise where trolley jack should be located?

At the front the car should be lifted on the chassis rails and at the rear on the rear beam bush plate.

You can lift an E30 convertible on the sills at the jacking point with a rubber ramp pad so not to damage the sill lip but dont ever lift them with a trolley jack as it will damage the sill lip.
