VW Golf GTI MK5
I’m a lurker at present looking for my ideal D3. In the meantime and in the spirit of joining a club I thought I would share some details on my current car.
It’s a low mileage 2006 MK5 Golf GTI.
I’ve know this car for quite a few years and I’m good friends with the previous owner who’s actually a massive BMW patrol head and the reason this made way from his fleet for a 550i E61.
I’ve had a MK5 diesel in the past and while they share a lot of the same parts the driving experience is quite different.
I specifically wanted a DSG. To me this perfectly suits the linear power of the 2.0 TFSI engine and the character of the car. The one in this car is super smooth and seamless having had regular oil changes.
Some of the work that’s been done is a complete suspension refresh, the addition of R32 brakes all round and also the R32 rear lights which really lift the car with the cherry red offset against the black paintwork. I had the wheels refurbished in Pretoria grey which changes colour depending on the light.
This will likely make way for the D3 which until now I’ve not really been a position to buy.
In the meantime I’ll enjoy the rorty engine note, dsg farts and great handling. I can see why people love these. The way hot hatches have gone means this has become quite understated and it’s quite rare to see a good one.
Oh I also like bikes

Thanks for sharing Ollie, i really like the check seats- not being familiar with the more modern Golfs was that a rarer option or were they all like that?
Obviously it harks back to the early ones, very cool
Good luck in your search for a D3!

Looks really nice Ollie.
A friend of mine had one and let me have a go. I couldn't believe how well it went, I was sure it must have been modified but he believed it was all standard. Handled great to, such a good all rounder.

The tartan pattern was standard but a lot were spec’d with leather. Most are quite worn from what I’ve seen where as mine has both bolsters in good condition. I think it really suits the car and lifts the interior.
They are great cars, maybe too good in some respects and surpassingly quick out the box. I had a mk1 Octavia vRS before this and the contrast between the old 1.8t with the KO3s turbo to this is surprising. It’s just has the little bit more polish and broader power delivery. I really don’t think you need anymore power in a front wheel drive car.
Thanks of the positive comments!
