1987 BMW 635 CSi Retro resto

Post by Tarka » Fri May 29, 2020 1:00 pm

I have a project, non Alpina BMW 635CSi - although it does sits on genuine Alpina Classics! 8)

Fully restored and rebuilt over the last 3 years - it was a fully MOT'd runner when i bought it (luckily quite cheap, compared to where they are on the market now) but its certainly been an expensive journey.

It has a manual / LSD conversion, which really wakes up the big 3.5l straight 6.

Once I had started digging into it, soon became clear that it was a rotten pear. Full of holes, held together with filler, bad welds and sealent :doh

So the real work began - replaced the floors, both sills, extensive work on the rear 3/4 panels and inner wings.
Full respray in diamond schwarz.
Engine, transmission and suspension overhaul H&R.
Full stainless manifold and system.

This is a 1987 "slimline" car but I have added a number of more desireable upgrades - namley the later highline interior which includes extended leather consoles, door trims, dash upper and lower sections. Still hunting for the leather headlining and working out a decent stereo / tech upgrade.

Now for some pics.

That's looking great. I have owned 5 635csi's including 2 M635csi's. Wish I had one now, lucky man.

Very nice!

Head unit - have you see the Blaupunkt offering than looks period for the 80s, but has all mod cons behind the buttons? Would be perfect for your 6er

That’s very cool! I do like the period look of it. Have a horrible feeling I will need two. One for this and one for the 89 B10 😩

Welcome Tarka.

We meet a few years ago at the station in Swindon. Your car looked ace then as it does now.
I cant remember if we spoke about it, but i have a Alpina B3 3.3 now.

We might have spoken on Retro Rides.

Hi Rav / yes that’s right! I’m pleased to say the car is now as good under the surface as it is outside!

Will be good to have a look round your B3 when this lockdown is finished. You’re Marlborough way aren’t you?

Yes, well remembered! Please do get in touch after the lockdown and we can introduce my Buchloe beast to your Shark Nose in the picturesque Marlborough downs.
