Liz Truss hints that she could axe motorway speed limits

Post by Grumpyjohn1957 » Thu Sep 01, 2022 6:49 pm

Hmmm, I wouldn’t be unhappy to legally cruise along an empty motorway at 160mph+.
My car is more than capable of doing such in a safe manner and remaining well inside its performance envelope.
Given the std of the average British driver though I’m not sure I’d want to try it, as for finding an empty motorway, there's an impossibility!

A disaster waiting to happen if this came about IMHO. Speed is OK in appropriate conditions but they’re very infrequent.
As for CO2 emissions this one flies in the face of it, what are these politicians on?

Personally, I’d settle for upping the limit to 85/90 mph and making better use of the variable limits to suit traffic density/weather conditions.
I’m sure we all enjoy exploiting our high performance cruisers on occasion, what’s the general consensus on this one?

Really!

Her usual u turn on policy decisions will not be allowed on a motorway.

Anyway John, it’s not the speed that kills it’s the stopping. I have done 160 on an autobahn and German drivers behave significantly differently than here. The only lane that’s empty is the near side.

She’s saying a lot of stuff that quite frankly suggests she is divorced from reality. Since she (presumably) isn’t psychotic, it seems reasonable to conclude she’s saying whatever she thinks will play well to her current audience, which is 160k Tory party members.

When her audience is the whole country, she’ll change her tune on most of what she’s said, about everything. In the meantime I would regard pretty much every statement she makes as apocryphal.
