My E9

Re: My E9
Lovely looking car. It was an e9 that used to reside not far from where I lived in the 70's that got me interested in BMW's and I still love the shape.

Re: My E9
Although I now live in Aberdeen I was brought up in Dundee and on the Clepington Road in Dundee there was an e9 parked often. I think it was a CSL in light metallic blue and belonged to a guy who was in a family business that repaired car bodies. I think the name of the business was Whittet Brothers and I am sure it was parked at the family house and/or close to their business premises. This would have been in the 1970's and I passed it often and always slowed down to view it. It was just so different from anything else and looked impressive and quick. There were very few BMW's in Dundee at that time but it gave me a desire that I have never lost having owned BMW's for the last 30 years or so.

Re: My E9
Sorry for the slow reply John, its difficult to believe that nobody wanted the E9 in all models in the 70s, only the very wealthy. Dealerships were told by bmw that if they wanted 10 2002tii cars, they had to ordereither 1 CSL or 2 e9 csi's or they wouldn't supply then their 2002 cars. So they ran the e9s and put 3k on the clock, then put them on the forecourt at a stupid low price.
I've always wanted an e9 ever since I was 12, and I can't tell you how I was like the night before it was delivered. I even contemplated driving down to Cranbrook Kent where I bought it from and following the transporter back just to make sure no one stole it when the driver had a break in the services!

Re: My E9
That's a very interesting story about how the car was marketed and sold, seems a shame considering how it is coveted now. Ever since the time I was relating in the 70's it has always been a car that I have desired and wanted to own, like yourself. Thought it was funny wanting to run guard on its delivery though.mr bump wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:27 pmSorry for the slow reply John, its difficult to believe that nobody wanted the E9 in all models in the 70s, only the very wealthy. Fantastic pic, haven't seen that one for years. These tyres look like they can even grip in the air. Think i will make this my wallpaper for a while. Thanks.ScooBeeFive wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 5:53 pmHaha this one:

I think we're allowed on this Chit Chat forum
Your user name very much gives away that you are a Capri man. I agree though, fabulous car - that was a great era for touring cars.

Re: My E9
Absolutely no problem at all - particularly as I cut my motorsport teeth attending meetings in the 70s at Brands Hatch with my dear departed father who used to marshal there in the early 60s and never stopped telling me his "Stirling Moss" story ...
