VIN decoders

Post by v8 ego » Tue Jul 14, 2020 11:48 am

Hi folks,

mdecoder.com has been broken since last week and it seems to have followed others in stopping functioning. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on?

One assumes that bimmer.work, mdecoder.com, bimmercat.com etc. all use the same backend system at BMW for VIN decoding so are BMW being a bunch of a-holes and stopping access?

Anyone got any ideas?
Regards,

James

I don't know anything specific, but mdecoder does have a note to say issues will be resolved within 24hrs. Haven't used it for a few days though, so don't know if that has been there all along.

EDIT: just checked this one "KR95775" and it did work ok

I think if you check a VIN you have already checked it works, if you put a new one it says it can't find it.

The note on the site has been there since Friday :(

Seems to be working ok again now James. There is no warning on the homepage and I've tried a couple of new VINs which came back fine.

Thanks Bob. Yes it is back with a limit of 5 lookups per day (which appears to actually be 3)

So, mdecoder seems to have now gone fully commercial. If you go to the original site, you can't decode anything as the daily limit appears to be 0. They have started a new version that requires 17 digits and not the last 7 and want €1 per decode.

There don't appear to be any others out there that work either.

I have tried

decoder.bvzine.com
bimmer.work
bimmercat.com

All fail :(

Another option with the only disadvantage that you don’t get all options in a nice overview:

https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-ersatzteile/

Fill out complete VIN in “Fahrgestellnummer”, hit Suchen, select a Category, select a Diagram, on the next page you will find an overview of all the options of the car, this is on the right hand side, next to the part numbers..

Cheers,
