Re: E90 D3 BiTurbo #132

ps I couldn’t find the meet and greet section, I do apologise if me commenting on a post without introducing myself first is bad etiquette 👍 thanks Alan We tend to operate slightly differently to other forums - as Bob has said, feel free to say "Hi" in the General section I’m not going to lie I sti...

Re: Bit of a scare with B3 3.3 Touring #108

I am concerned as my car battery has been playing up in the past months and i wonder how i could check this is not a situation waiting to happen to me? Firstly, I would check the output from the alternator which is a simple task that any decent garage should be able to do. Secondly, I would stop pa...

Re: BMW main dealer service

I would speak to the Service Manager and educate him about ALPINA.

The starting point is that it is NOT an M3 and costs the same to service as the donor car.

If he doesn't want to know then take your business elsewhere.

Re: E46 B3 3.3 CABRIO #098

MOT history only goes back to 2009. I wonder why that is? If earlier MOTs were done using the BMW VIN, would the two series of tests be automatically connected up? Equally, if the car was SORN'd for a period of time, it would not need an MOT. Does seem unusual but there are several possible (innoce...

With regards to 'we', I was referring to the whole country.
Quite a big car meet then ... M25 perhaps?

Re: Classics at Glenham Woodbridge 5th Sept 2021 - CANCELLED

I think you might have misunderstood the previous post, Norman.

No-one is saying that you specifically were part of the organisers for the Glenham event and the "we" refers to a collective of members here who may be able to organise an informal get together later this year.

Hope this helps

Re: Cold Start Up Problem and Cog of Death - Alpina E46 B3.3 2002

I had something similar to this once and it was a frayed wire coming off the throttle body which threw everything out. Had to be recovered to the garage but was a pleasantly easy (and cheap) fix. Since then I've had all the cables recovered and adjusted their routing to prevent a repeat situation. M...

Re: Cold Start Up Problem and Cog of Death - Alpina E46 B3.3 2002

"Problem solving by forum" is not going to work here. My advice is to get a full fault code check - then you will have a clear idea of what is going on. Being based in Scotland, CPC in Amersham or BMR in Crawley are a bit too far for you to consider, but any decent BMW specialists in your part of th...

Re: Battery issues

The flashing indicators when locking and unlocking is something that can be changed via the OBD.

Perhaps someone at BMR changed a setting when they were working on the car?

Re: Battery issues

PS. I dream of a E46 B3 Touring!! I assume you have one based on your profile pic? Does it suffer same subframe / boot floor issue? Yup, I have a 2003 B3S Touring which I've owned from new and am about to clock up 350k miles. No subframe issues here (all checked recently) but it's a 2003 car and th...

Re: VED changes.

Here is a link to the .gov website showing the tax rate rules If I've interpreted it correctly, then a summary for ALPINA owners is as follows: For ALPINAs registered before 1 March 2001 and treated as PLG, annual tax = £270 For ALPINAs registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017 and treated ...

Re: VED changes.

Phil is right - these tax changes are not retrospective My 2003 B3S has emissions at 235g/km which would, in mainstream cars, give it a tax rate near £400pa but it is classified as PLG so I pay £265pa at the moment (edited to show correct PLG rate) When the D3 appeared, Sytner started registering th...

Not sure if all the Alpina owners care about weight reductions, but I've been running a lithium battery in my E46 M3 last 3 years. Went down from a 18kg lead-acid to a 3kg battery. Never looked back... https://www.deadweightindustries.co.uk

Re: Cold Start Up Problem and Cog of Death - Alpina E46 B3.3 2002

Any recommendations as to how I could test the current one [starter motor] to check it’s efficiency ? Not easily - it gets slower and slower and then dies! In my case, having had the car from new, I was aware of what it should be like and what it had become and the time taken to fire up was getting...
