That's a real nightmare - you did well to get it back up off the floor. As you say, fingers crossed it didn't do any further damage.

This is a lovely car though and definitely deserves some TLC - look forward to seeing the results.

I think it depends on the car. I had a 130i about 15 years ago which had an open diff as standard. The rear end setup was so stiff, one of the wheels would always be loosing traction. Probably no help for your F30, but after a bit of research, I went for a space saver from an F01 750i, as the B5 uses the same brakes. It's well worth carrying one, especially if you are embarking on longer trips.
