The original question was "can someone explain in laymans terms what torqu e is?" Charles' explanation although no doubt absolutely correct,is a little too long to understand i...

Ah Charles, many thanks for your response. I have got an awful transmission whine but 3 garages have said don't worry it's nothing. On odd occasions ,such as approaching roundabout, after initial slowdown, if nothing is coming and I boot it, no response for a millisecond then its away like a rocket. ...

B3 gearbox woes
Hello Charles. The car has done 101,000 miles
Gearbox oil was changed at 96,000.At least I hope so cos I did pay but I am not sure of the garage's integrity.
Car pulls away in 2nd
Slight clonk onslowdown,almost imperceptible
Will check temperature after your next knowledgeable post

Just a quick query. What sort of problems would arise if my gearbox was low on oil?
Would I get any transmission noise?
Would I get jerky gear changes?
Would acceleration be compromised?
All thoughts greatly anticipated.
Ta in advance.

Right .I have a question. How do you check the switchtronic box's oil level. I paid a certain local to change my gearbox oil over a year ago.Last month i took it somewhere different and asked them to chack it.They said it's sealed for life and doesn't need changing.I know this is wrong cos I've read ...
