Belated update for anyone who runs into E46 gauge cluster problems. Short version, I removed the cluster and took it to Cartronix in Waterlooville. Waited about 90 mins, paid £175, and took it away fixed. Longer version, I had hoped it was the motor driving the gauge, so I paid £20 for an eBay clust...

I’m planning on replacing the rears on my E46 B3, but it looks like the hubs have to come off, so saving it for a combined driveshaft cleanup, wheel bearing replacement session.
