Re: Engine Faults

Having taken DogWagens advice and watched the video and the follow up on fuel pressure I am now totally confused. Connected up the fuel pressure kit switched on to run pump and I get 3.4 bar pressure, good, after 5 minutes it’s at 3 bar and after an hour it’s still at 3 bar. So I’m thinking there’s ...

Re: Engine Faults

Interestingly because I am due to do a service I started this morning to change the plugs and there was an oil leak apparent in that area although not down the plug holes so I’ve binned the service idea and ordered a rocker cover gasket and the rubber squash washers that hold the cover in place. I w...

Engine Faults

Started this morning and had stuttering and surging, smoothed out somewhat once the aux air pump switched off. No dashboard lights. Diagnostics tells me p0170/0173. Long term fuel trim tell me 1 to 3 is 15 and 4 to 6 is 19.5. o2 sensor b1s1 is working fine incl heater element. b2s1 is reading perman...

Re: Wipers

I opened up the relay and there was some evidence that it could be/look better so I’ve cleaned it up and put it back in. Haven’t had a problem since. Fingers crossed.

Re: Engine Temperature vs Longevity

I changed the thermostat on my 4.6 to a 92c thermostat many years ago and converted to electric fan. Never see temperatures above 96c and never heard the fan cut in while driving, it will cycle a few times after the vehicle is switched off. Presumably normal thermo syphon action taking place. Before...

Re: Wipers

Just looked up the relay, I mean what around £80. Will check with the dealer tomorrow. Might need to get a cloth on a stick. Loads of used ones for under £20. Will take it apart and see if contacts are corroded and try a bit of emery.

Re: Wipers

Don’t think so as it’s not old and the screen shows voltage. It will generally be between 13.6/13.8v although if checked with a multi meter at the under bonnet jump start points it will show 14.1v. The other suggestion I’ve had is the stalk. We’ll see no doubt.

Wipers

Driving along today with light rain and intermittent wipers on. Suddenly they stopped working as did all the other settings. Pulled into a lay-by and checked the fuse card. No mention of wipers anywhere. Headlight cleaning, washers but nothing about wipers. Note that the engine is off but only to ac...

Re: I didn’t know

Well, for whatever reason none of the above works, I did a recode of the key but nothing improved. Perhaps something in the cars past has been changed to not allow this facility, shame it would be a nice feature to have in the summer. Thanks for mentioning it. It does annoy me now that I know I shou...

Re: Service milage

So as there is a discrepancy of 6k then this suggests that I drive like the grandad I am. I’m not sure if I should be pleased or embarrassed by that conclusion.

Service milage

I service every 7.5k and have a little under 500 miles to go. The service reminder tells me the next service is due in 6300k meaning roughly 13k between services. How accurate is that and how does it measure.

Re: Crank position sensor

Well I did pony up for a BMW sensor £134 then had to wait till my son had time to fit it as I have done the old back in some time ago and low and behold it fired up and ran perfect again. Who would have thought? Well maybe simon13 and rc944.
